I’ve got to agree with **Avumede** on this one. Although the SDMB is great for what it’s trying to be, it doesn’t hold a candle to Usenet for sheer volume of information, diversity of opinion, expertise, personalities, unique quirks, and pure entertainment value. It also has some of the best trolling around, which (contrary to the popular opinion/policy here) is sometimes useful and often times amusing. A well-executed troll can truly be a work of art, not to mention a powerful tool for reducing credulity. ---

This is without a shadow of doubt the best MB I have ever been on and I think that the MODS contribute in no small way to making it what it is. They don’t take any shit and you step out of line just ONCE and boy they let you know about it…keeps the whole board nice and tidy. ---

Being housebound disabled, I have practically “lived” online for the past 5 years at various message boards. Most of these are health-related, and the support you can get from these groups is wonderful. But I come to the SDMB when I want to relax, learn and laugh, and I agree this place is second to none … in no small part due to the excellent standard of moderation. I’m a little “sensitive” :o and have felt compelled to leave well-loved message boards when the trolls have got the upper hand and spoilt it for the rest of us. :rolleyes: I have never, to date, visited The Pit … and probably never will in case it spoils the experience of coming here.
