I read an interview with the actor in _Diamonds Are Forever_ who demands to see Bond’s badge in the scene in Willard Whyte’s research facility. The guy said that he was nervous and kept blowing his lines, and Connory would “cover” for him by saying things like, “It’s all right, I missed my mark anyway.” and similar such things, so the guy wouldn’t feel like he was a total screw up. Connory also threatened to beat the crap out of a guy who was heckling a comic in a club one night. (Both he and Michael Caine talked about the incident on Letterman.)
