Crazy like a fox, maybe. There are millions of people who believe her, and true believers are easily separated from their money.
“Defending the Republic was established by Sidney Powell to defend and to protect the integrity of elections in the United States. Please contribute below, using our secure system. Your donation will support our mission and the welfare of the American Republic.”
Powell’s idiotic court filings have made no impact on Trump supporters except to rile them up. To a man, they are all saying that the filing prove massive fraud. When asked why they have no evidence in them, the response is universally “they aren’t allowed to show any evidence until they get to court.”
I have asked some Trumpists how, if the evidence can’t be shown until the trial starts. they know the election was stolen. They just admitted they had not seen the evidence, right? The answer is “because Trump must have won. No one would vote Biden.” That’s it; that is the entire thought process.
I had to spend Thanksgiving in the presence of such people. Their thinking is, and I quote, “You have to be stupid or as corrupt as Biden to vote for him. I get not everyone loves President Trump. But you don’t have to vote for Biden – just don’t vote. Stay home if you don’t like Trump.”
Does anyone here have a PACER account? “305th Military Intelligence” guy’s affidavit is apparently Exhibit 8 in the filing, but I can’t find or access it online - I think it’s available to someone using PACER. I’m just really, morbidly, curious whether it was the supposed witness or Sidney Powell who borked the references.
I’ve been trying to think of a comparison, and it’s kind of like an attorney tried to present an expert opinion on software tampering by citing someone claiming to be a chemist, and establishing their bona fides by citing the dorm where they lived as an undergraduate, getting the name of the dorm wrong, and the dorm actually only houses humanities majors while chemistry majors are in a completely different dorm, and of course neither a humanities major nor a chemist actually have any relevant expertise.
The tragic thing which you do not understand — which you cannot understand — is that you’ve already lost. You cannot know exactly what — that’s the nature of chaos — but know this. You will lose more than you can bear.
We lost our children, playing at church. We lost our friends, sitting down to brunch. Muslims lost their dignity and rights. Your Republicans have set forces into play they cannot possibly understand and certainly cannot control. And they don’t even want to. To them, chaos is a ladder. …
What I can tell you — what anyone who’s experienced this can tell you — is that it’s going to be bad. I didn’t know that churches and hotels would blow up on Easter Sunday, but I know now. I’m trying to tell you in advance. You’ve opened up a Pandora’s box of instability. All kinds of demons come out.
I have lived through a coup. It felt like what you’re feeling now. Like watching something stupid and just waiting for it to go away. But it doesn’t go away. You can forget about it, but it doesn’t go away.
There’s a ticking bomb at the heart of your democracy now. Your government, the very idea of governance is fatally wounded. Chaos has been planted at its heart. I don’t know what this chaos will grow into, but I can promise you this. It won’t be good.
I think it’s the factor I mentioned in my earlier post. These people are incompetent; their failure is inevitable. But taking a position in the Trump administration gives them an opportunity to fail at a much higher level than they could have otherwise attained.
All true. And for each of them, there’s a chance to become well-known enough to latch onto the gravy train of RW punditocracy.
Much as so many people are trying to become celebrities via YouTube, Americans’ Got Talent, “reality” TV, and all the rest, celebrity is a very attractive idea to a lot of people in its own right.
And for some fraction of those celebrities, this translates quickly into 10x, 100x, or 1000x the income they had before. Even if the cashing out proves ephemeral, it can still be life changing for the luckier ones.
The way the BBC explains her, she is insane but there is method in her madness. And it has been lucrative for her and will continue to be for a while. She also is Flynn’s lawyer and he has been pardoned. See? That must be worth an extra bonus or two.
They didn’t forget it so much as never believe it in the first place. Remember, 3 million illegal aliens voted in 2016 (according to Donald Trump). I’ve got co-workers who don’t necessarily believe that claim, but they did talk a lot about how if you disregard California, Trump won the popular vote. (They were never clear on why California’s votes shouldn’t count…)
That’s a good one. If you don’t count all of the votes, he got more votes. Logically, sounds just like the Trump supporters I know. Amazingly gullible, they are.
its exactly what trump is aksing people to do - he was ‘winning’ on election night and keeps showing screenshots where ‘50%’ of the vote is in and saying " I won, I won".
Someone with the Washington football team, who recently took control of their local division, tweeted out the chart showing them at the top along with “Stop The Count!”
It has since been deleted.
