In the new Supergirl series, the lead actress has pierced ears for some reason, suggesting that for some time after she arrived on Earth at age 13, she was not immediately invulnerable, so… ---

That’s for the red ones, which have a weird effect. (Superman now has the head of a bug for 24 hours! Superman has been turned into a giant for 24 hours! Superman has amnesia for 24 hours!) And then there’s gold kryptonite, which causes a permanent loss of all powers. And et cetera. But the same piece of _Green_ K can, IIRC, affect Superman repeatedly: always weakening him, and slowly killing him. ---

Nope, I distinctly recall him being so weakened by the ordeal that Pa Kent was even able to take Clark to the Smallville Tonsorial Emporium for a haircut. It wasn’t until the end of the story that we found what they were up to. ---
