Bosda, a number of companies take out life insurance on employees who, according to actuary tables, may kick short-term. It almost makes me want to check on who has insurance policies on Chief Idiot & his new wife. And, perhaps, who has invested recently in biomedical security concerns, using the old ‘follow the money’ approach. OMG! I just saw this [article](http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/story?id=3231184&page=1) (linked in [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=423108) thread) which states **he knew he had TB in January**! That changes things, he knew the tests were due back at any time, and instead of waiting to be sure he didn’t have XDR-TB, he left the country, against the CDC’s recommendations! (Though he tells it differently, I don’t buy it.) Note the defiant expression on the new Bride’s face, what litte of it you can see. ---

That is the queston!” as well as sanitariums not that long ago relatively speaking? :dubious: If there were no risk of another epidemic, the CDC would not have quarentined him, nor would that other fellow be in a prison hospital to ensure he takes his medicine! ---

So, to get back on topic, how likely do you think the new bride is to have the same strain of TB? Do you think the in-laws might also have it as well? What about his family and friends, and co-workers? He went from January to now carrying on as normal, with XDR-TB. ---

[/QUOTE] It’s not to avoid an ‘epidemic’ but to keep him away from people who may have compromised immune systems because his is a more difficult type of TB to treat. I’m not saying the guy did a good thing, but it’s not one of those TV Scary Disease Movie cases. You do realize that there’s about 14,000 cases of TB in the US per year, right? ---

I’m guessing that isn’t taking into account the people in countries with much worse healthcare than ours. Heck, we HAVE a CDC. TB wasn’t that long ago. There is an old TB hospital still standing, it is currently being used as a jail. This guy hopped continents, flew with a No Fly order, he is our basic pandemic waiting to happen. We are extremely lucky it wasn’t something like an Ebola strain. Then again, I’m guessing you think the CDC is over-reacting. Seriously, go the fuck away. ---
