Is this still happening? I’ve gotten a couple of emails today from Wyze that my camera may have problems due to AWS outage. A few people have mentioned this in the subreddit r/wyzecam.
Not still happening - happening again.
Out of three Wyze cams at my home, one of them was apparently affected in a bizarre way.
Noticed when “dumb” motion sensitive porchlight came on yesterday. I check Wyze app - no notifications, live feed working. I manually playback a minute, and USPS had come up and left a package. (this cam doesn’t see the doorstep). Then I notice on the Wyze app, it had a “broken cloud” image next to the thumbnail, while the others were listed as “on”.
Cue a few minutes of experimenting such as checking notifications for that camera (stuck on “loading”), restarting cam (didn’t seem to work), testing the siren (worked but delayed), and manually unplugging power to the cam for a minute. The most ‘amusing’ part was when the app would say the camera was offline while still able to bring up both live feed and playback from the memory card. Also force-closed and restarted the Wyze app.
Finally gave up on it, then noticed an email had come in from Wyze regarding AWS-related issues, check the app again and cam is listed as online like the the others. (which to be fair, I neglected to check since they hadn’t had the “broken cloud” icon)
Part of me wonders if the live/playback would have worked if I’d been away from home instead of on the local WiFi, but who knows.
And, Microsoft’s cloud services also had their own outage last night.
I only have one Wyze camera and if there were any malfunctions, I probably attributed it to newby-itis on my part.
Apparently one of the ways Wyze is choosing to communicate with its minions is at r/wyzecam posted BY u/WyzeCam
You might want to bookmark that. Wyze users are unhappy with this communication channel, as many people don’t use or visit reddit.
They do have a presence at https://twitter.com/WyzeCam
Our cable was too wonky to use last night. Yup, it uses AWS.
