Is the Christian Children's fund a Good Charity?

I was giving to Plan International for a while. One of the reasons that these kinds of charities don’t actually give to your sponsored child is because they don’t want to setup a system of inequality between children in these communities. When they were asking us to send Christmas/Birthday presents to our sponsored child, they asked us to send presents that could be played with by groups rather than individuals, like frisbees or soccer balls. Also, if you suddenly stop giving like I had to, then your single child isn’t suddenly dropped.

You really don’t understand how this works do you? A non-profit organization has a brand just like a for-profit corporation. THey control the brand as best they can, which usually involves endorsement deals. You don’t just put someone’s brand on your event without going through the proper channels. I tried to do this once with a dinner I put together but it was too short notice to contact the trustees of the charitable organization, so it didn’t happen.

They didn’t get the money because the auctioneers chose to give it to a different charity. They never refused to accept the money, as you and a number of misinformed malcontents blathering on their blogs and Livejournals have claimed. They only declined to lend their brand to the event.

Ooh…name calling. Classy. Bottom line, they missed out on $17K because they were assholes. I’m happy to know that it will end up costing them a good deal more than that, because of those “misinformed malcontents”.

Take it with as large a grain of salt as you want to …

I prefer not to deal with any organization that has any particular religious agenda behind it … the idea of proseletyzing is horrifying to me as I believe every persons religion is as valid as any other. [also keep in mind one of my family members is a founder of BCM [Bible Centered Ministries International]

Now if you care to donate to a nonsectarian foundation … Peace Corps is good, they do not push any religion at all, and believe in supporting the whole community, not just a lucky few.
