I’m definitely on and posting a lot more. I’ve been here a looonnnggg time,mostly lurked, but now this is my place for sanity. I can read news, but I cannot stand to hear the blathering of broadcast media. I feel like I can really trust this place for a) breaking news, and b) a real, intelligent discussion of it (some exceptions may occur).
Agreed (re: FQ); “questions” which get posted there, but which aren’t entirely looking for “just the facts,” do usually get moved into other forums.
Part of its decline is probably the ability to google questions, though I think part is that FQ seems, to me, to be historically the most like sending a question to Cecil to be answered in the SD column (and the FQ header still refers to this); there’s no longer an active SD column, so that “function” of FQ is defunct, anyway.
FQ / GQ was yuge before wiki got big. Now, it’s different. Still really valuable for the tough to google oddball stuff, or for more background. But still, it’s different.
