Is the elction method/procedure a partisan issue?

I did read your cite, but my skepticism remains (not about the paper trail part, that seems to be a prudent measure afaics, but about the whole ‘Republican conspiricy to steal the election’ thing).

Again, whats the official position by the national Democratic party? Are there any serious initiatives in Congress/Senate to look into this? Again, afaik there is no serious initiative to look into electronic voting by any large group (like say the Democrat party) in Congress, and the official position of the Democrat party is that things are fine. If I’m wrong, I urge you to fight my ignorance and show me, as I really don’t know. The fact that 2 Senators are ‘taking a stand’ on this is unsurprising…its called ‘pandering’, though to be fair they really might think there is a serious problem. But until I see a large body of support for such things in the Congress/Senate its hard for me to take it seriously. To me it sounds like tin foil hat stuff or partisan hand waving. Part of that might be the myriad threads on this that rjung has started with partisan hand waving and conspiricy theories…after a while I really just started tuning it out as it didn’t seem to be a serious thing.

Here is a cite about the 8-0 recommendation against the security of Diebold by an advisory panel for the California Secretary of State. I don’t know the composition, but I assume there is at least one Republican there. I have not heard of any Republicans in favor - most of those upset by this ruling are local registrars who spent a lot of money on these machines.

It is outrageous that Diebold makes uncertified changes. That they are “cosmetic” is bull - a good chunk of the national phone system went down 10 years ago or so because of a one line change that was too minor to regression test.

It isn’t partisan here - but I suppose we have more honest Republicans than in some states.

Hoo boy, more fuel for the fire. I say we throw the damn machines into a hole and bury them. These machines had a paper trail, and they showed that the machines were shockingly glitchy.

I think it’s partisan out of knee jerk opposition. As soon as one group voiced an opinion, the other was going to go against it just for the sake of going against it.

If you think it’s partisan now, wait and see what happens if this election goes close in either direction. I’ll admit it. As much as I want to see the election be as accurate as possible, I would do a lil happy dance if it came out for Kerry and Bush was crying for a recount. I know it’s wrong, but I can’t help it.

Don’t know about the party as such, but the Kerry team has retained a team of more than 2,000 lawyers to watch the polls and jump in the moment anything looks the least bit fishy. I had a cite for this, a newspaper story I linked to a couple months ago, but I can’t seem to find it now.
