Is the equal sign overrated?

Here is another example of equal not quite working 1/2-1/3+1/4-1/5+1/6-1/7… = X

1/2+1/4-1/3+1/6+1/8-1/5 +1/10+1/12-1/7+…=Y

they both eventually add 1/even and subtract 1/odd but X is not equal to Y.
