Is the New York Times Pro-Trump?

Yes, the President becoming obviously unfit for office and being pressured to step down is a big story. Major Democratic donors (Clooney raised $30 million LAST MONTH ALONE for Biden) calling on Biden to step down is a big deal, even if you choose to sneer at their profession.

Have either of you actually checked to see what the answer to that question is?

Why not? Maybe not THE main headline, but somewhere above the fold and near the top, or whatever the website equivalent is. Like the Roman senator ending every speech with “Carthago delenda est” regardless of the topic of the rest of his speech. Or a masthead like the Post’s “Democracy Dies in Darkness”: “Democracy Would Die Under a Trump Presidency.”

It would remind readers to keep that in mind when reading the rest of the news. Yes, Biden did this, or Pelosi said that, or this poll came out, but what does that mean in light of Trump being a lying rapist dictator-loving insurrectionist who has SAID he will have revenge against his opponents if he wins again?

Yes, but the paywall interferes with this.

I confess, I haven’t done a comprehensive content analysis of the 50+ op-ed pieces on Biden in order to answer my own question. But I subscribe to the New York Times, and I read it every day.

Incidentally, among these op-ed pieces, one by Ezra Klein really went above and beyond. He quoted an anonymous delegate about how much Democrats would benefit from a last-minute, anyone-but-Biden open convention, because of all the positive media coverage it would generate.

Does this person not remember how the media gutted Howard Dean for yelling? Al Gore for wearing earth tones? Dick Gephardt for coloring his eyebrows? What planet are these anonymous sources living on?

Yeah, well, that’s your interpretation.

Hey, wait a minute.

Trump’s cognitive issues.

That’s literally the point. Trump demonstrates serious cognitive decline daily. Slurring and struggling to pronounce common words, failing to recall names, confabulation, etc. These are all signs of dementia. The problem is not that they are reporting on Biden, but that they are grading Trump on a curve.

Cite? These are not the NY Times headlines or op-eds. They are GOP talking points and show up in all the propaganda right wing so-called news sites and of course from The Donalds stream of consciousness made up rally nonsense.

I get you think the Times is out to get Biden because they are miffed at being snubbed by Biden. I also completely disagree

I don’t think the Times is anti-Biden, but the Times definitely thinks Biden has a high probability of losing to Trump. Therefore the Times is putting their finger on the scale to have another standard bearer run and save the republic from disaster.

Read George Clooney’s opinion piece that ran in the Times yesterday. Addresses this and many other questions in a well written format.

The second sentence contradicts the first. “They’re not against Biden they are opposing him.” What?

My projecting is the NY Times professional editorial position is that Biden has a high probability of losing to Trump. Teh Times thinks that would be a disaster for America, and a nightmare scenario is that Trump supported by the Supremes shut down free media along with the first amendment. November could easily be an existential moment for the Times.

Rag on the Times all you want, but these folks have been in the business for a few long time, probably are the last real large news organization in the US outside of the wire services, have really smart experienced reporters, have inside channels to politicians and business, and probably have as good an understanding of what is likely to go down in November as anyone.

Therefore, should the Times hope for the best? Or should the Times use the waning power of the 4th estate to help propel a change in the ticket for at a minimum better odds.

The question of what the NYT should be doing or why is not the topic of this thread. But it looks like you are at least recognizing that they are opposing Biden.

But it is not just the NYT it is the nightly news, etc.

That isnt my point, others made that point. My point is that the NYT is hammering Biden now, not trump.

One data point:

Lead home page headline, The Times (London):

Biden makes string of gaffes in crucial press conference

Lead home page headline, New York Times:

Live Election Updates: At High-Stakes News Conference, Biden Vows to ‘Finish the Job’

One misleading data point…

“A Stumble Out of the Gate”
“Biden Blames Elites, but Voters May Be His Bigger Problem”
“The Biden campaign is quietly testing Kamala Harris’s strength vs. Donald Trump”
“Here’s how Biden lost George Clooney and many big donors in Hollywood”

[Paul Harvey]And now, the rest of the story[/PH]: The next three articles are anti-Biden, and the video at the top just loops the same gaff over and over again. Ninja’d by @Lance_Turbo.

I’m sure the NYT and CNN will soon be featuring this at the top of theIr pages.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week.

Peace. I am not going to change your mind, nor a handful of cherry picked articles from a real news source (as opposed to MSNBC or even worse Faux) is going to change my mind.

Mission #1 is to beat trump. Some of you think that’s Biden. I disagree. I mean, I’ll vote for a stinking pile of crap vs trump. But as soon as someone a decade or three younger than Trump enters the race, the spotlight flips and it will be all about Trump’s freaking geriatric mind and moments.

So you get your wish, some mystery Dem takes Biden’s place, and trump wins. What then?
