An entire week of continuous comicstrip action comes to about one page of film script, which is about one minute of film. (On the other hand, if you go back about a century, each individual strip was a new day, but that led to a lot of strips beginning, “Hey, you remember that thing we were talking about yesterday? Well, it just occurred to me that…,” so time was eventually made more elastic.) ---

Did they ever figure out how he could leave a skull mark that could not be removed when he clobbered someone? My only exposure to The Phantom was my uncle’s stash of 1940-50s comics which I read back then. I also really liked “Blackhawk”. A bunch of pilots wearing tight black leather simultaneously vaulting over a wall into a den of Nazis while crying, “HAWKA!!”. What’s not to like? ---

Well, his awkward “trying to explain the dream” is almost painful. I used to drop in on “The Ghost Who Walks” every week or two, just to see what was up with a newspaper strip from my childhood, but I’m not even going to do that any more. It’s a fallow period for strips, I’m afraid. Rex Morgan and Judge Parker are thoroughly boring. Crankshaft and Luann aren’t even trying to be amusing. And the amateur writing in Mary Worth has declined way past “inadvertently humorous” to “NO ONE would ever talk this way, why am I even bothering?” Signing off… ---
