Mostly negative. He has given the racists, xenophobes, Islamophobes, and bigots a permission slip to crawl out from under the rocks and spread their diseased thoughts. One could argue that it’s good for us to know where the vermin are, but the easily influenced among us are buying into their evil doctrine. Take a Hitler speech, substitute “Muslim” for “Jew”, translate to English, and you’ve got a Trump speech.
The war against “political correctness” is simply an excuse for crude, infantile behavior. Mocking another’s disability, feigning disgust over basic bodily functions, hinting that a reporter’s question was driven by her menses- all of these should make one not be taken seriously in a race for eight grade student council. If Republicans were anything but the party of hate, they would resoundingly reject such behavior. It’s also a shame that the media is so gunshy about being accused of marketing political correctness and favoritism that they can’t call a spade a spade.
Both Trump and Cruz are running con games, too. They are as disingenuous as any politician that came before them–they’re just aiming differently. That’s all. They will say anything to get attention, and that’s about all they really stand for.
So, IF–and when–their supporters see the con game that’s being played on them for what it is, then it will be a very positive thing, indeed.
So controlling the borders is “hate?” If the immigrants were projected to grow the right instead of the left, Dems would have the support of the newly minted Wall Building Union.
Lots of liberal Democrats are in favor of requiring health insurance to cover birth control and abortion, even though this is likely to prevent more births in Democratic-leaning demographics than Republican ones. Also, they tend to tell each other that they should delay getting married, and not have babies unless they really want them.
Here’s what I conclude from the last paragraph: When it comes to demographics, Democrats don’t act as strategically as you think.
I suspect that enough media personalities are lazy, stupid, or cowardly that the media will not impede Trump.
BLM engages in arson, bombing, and shooting? Have you dropped in from an alternate timeline where there’s a terror group with that name, or am I missing something?
I want to point out again that this appears to be intentional on his part. Trump supposedly had a book of Hitler speeches he read years ago. It makes sense. Hitler is noteworthy for speechifying himself into power. If you can learn his secrets, and find a way to do that, you too can be promoted way beyond any office you have been even remotely educated for and run your country into the ground!
I think Fox News has been insidious and destructive and Trump is their chicken home to roost. Trump is presenting them with their first real challenge to their reason for existence. They will be squirming, and this is positive IMO. Listen to Rove, Krauthammer O’Reilly etc etc. twist and twist.
The tone of the media, should we get right wing terror in the US, would change a lot. There will be a lights on moment for many people. And the bigots will have to figure out new ways. Meanwhile the old white power crowd will die off.
They are already fading. It’s a demographic fact that Trump can’t win. The empty bin rattles the loudest.
Positive. It’s a symptom of something that’s been brewing for quite some time - the cleaving of the Republican Party into moderately-rational and far-out-loony wings, this division making it harder for them to win the presidency. I’m expecting to see some significant realignment over the next decade, with the far-out-loonies marginalized into irrelevance for the overall benefit of the United States.
The resurgence of populism is not a good sign. When the masses feel compelled to pay attention to politics, it means we are not seeing the kind of economic growth we should be. This has been apparent since 2000, but neither the infantile scapegoating of Trump, nor the simplistic statism of Sanders is the answer. Two sides to the same coin. These are the two angriest individuals I’ve seen in politics, with the possible exception of Chris “Spitvac” Christie.
Trump’s bigotry is like a glowing beacon other bigots have glommed themselves onto. The numbers are scary, and I’m afraid something violent will come from it. There’s a lot of bottled up hate out there, and Trump is shaking the bottle and pulling at the cork…
One from column 4, I presume, complete with false equivalency? Good luck in luring those “masses” of yours to vote for your guy.
Economies go up and down and have forever. This nativism, which is unilateral, (Not Democratic) seems like a very intense historical (and hysterical) moment, a storm of fear mongering, media frenzy, negativity, irrationality, and know nothingism, which started with Reagan I would say.
