I’ve just tried a search, but I get the error:

“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 9 bytes) in /home/straightdope/boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php on line 1007”

Is this me or the board?

It does that sometimes. Not sure why. But the next search usually works okay.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t that situation in days gone by lead to the expression (and maybe even the meme) “Edge of the Internet” or “End of the Internet”?

If not, what did?
