I don’t think so. The actions and inactions (to their perception in any case) done to date are still there.

I can’t argue with that; still, it’s depressing to know that people are willing to live by ‘cut off my nose to spite my face’ when the consequences could be so dire.

Yeah. When both participants have what they consider to be irrefutable reasons to decline to do something, then that something IS unlikely to be done.
