No, no, people, that’s not it. Once you’ve got that frozen banana, slice it. Toss it in the blender with a handful of frozen mango (from Trader Joe’s) and a healthy splash of milk (cow’s, or soy, if you lean that way). Puree that puppy for a bit and you’ve got a smoothie like nuthin’ you’ve ever had!! No, really- frozen bananas blend to a surprising creaminess. You really should try it in whatever kind of smoothie you like. But I’d go for the mango. ---

I peel the whole thing and then eat from one end or the other, I don’t pay much attention to which. ---

But you haven’t grasped the full extent of the problem until you’ve lived in a house with two industrial-strength banana trees in the back yard. When the bananas get ripe enough to eat, the mad banana-for-every-meal rush begins and doesn’t end until the last few - a hundred or so - bananas have become unsuitable for human consumption (which unfortunately doesn’t take very long in a warm climate). At least that’s what happens when your parents are too cheap to let anything go to waste… And that, my friends, is why I do NOT eat bananas any more. As far as I’m concerned, the only way to eat a banana is to peel it (starting at the stem end, like all civilized people), split it, cover it thoroughly with ice cream and chocolate, and then carefully remove every last bit of banana and dispose of it in an environmentally sound manner before enjoying your healthy dessert. ---

Someone has touched upon a stirring childhood memory. The idea of bananas and peanut butter is deeply rooted in my psyche. God knows why, and she ain’t talkin’. 😃 One MUST slice the banana longways, so that one winds up with thin slices. Apply chunky peanut butter, preferably Pathmark brand, to one slice of bread. Then lay said slices of banana onto peanut butter, and apply second thinner coating of chunky unto the secondary slice of bread. The issue of ripeness is a tricky one. If you go too soon, you get that horrifying tooth-grinding green/yellow banana mastic feeling in your teeth. If you go too late, it won’t slice. The upside to going too late is that you can simply peel it back, and spread it like jelly with the peanut butter.
