# Is there a Discworld novel in the works?

Is there any news or information about of the next Discworld book?
And what’s the best website to get such information?
I am aware of the l-space website but I couldn’t find anything on there about an upcoming book. I’m guessing there’s no news or information yet but there’s no harm in asking\*

The next one in the pipeline is apparently _Unseen Academicals_, followed by _Raising Taxes._ No word on when they will be published, but they are somewhat complete.

According to a statement by Terry, he’s been kind of busy lately with interviews and other anti-Alzheimers work, but Unseen Academicals should be out by the fall.

Is Raising Taxes a Moist Von Lipwig novel?

How 'bout the last (and possible second-to-last) Tiffany Aching book? Frankly, if I had to choose between a regular Discworld novel and the final Tiffany book(s), I’d have to go with Tiffany. Most of the other major character’s stories have been told. Vimes, Moist, Susan, Rincewind\*-while I’d love to see more stories about any of them, their major character arcs have been completed–there might be new arcs, but they’re not unfinished.
The one really unfinished part of the Discworld mythos (to me) is the coven. Magrat is now a mother, Nanny Ogg is _also_ one though and doesn’t seem to have any desire to move to “the other one”'s position. Agnes seems to have been a non-starter: he tried…two, three times with her and it just didn’t jell. I suspect this will all be resolved in the last Tiffany book. Granny (sadly) needs to die (“I [del]ainet[/del] **AM** ded!”)–she’s _won_. She’s beaten ever foe that she could face. She’s stared down vampires, elf-queens, and death without flinching. But a life with no challenges? That wouldn’t be good for her. My guess? You’re gonna have a different dynamic. The maiden doesn’t HAVE to be a wimp–there’s the whole “Virgin Goddess” thing–Diana/Artemis. Tiffany could fill that role quite nicely. Mother doesn’t have to be lusty and bawdy, she can also be nurturing and caring–and Magrat who cries when baby sparrows fall from their nests fits nicely too. The “other one” role–I don’t see Nanny there, but on the other hand, does the crone have to be bitter? Or just old?
Sorry, rambling here. Anyway, anyone know about the last Tiffany book?

I loved the Tiffany books, especially _Wintersmith_ (my second favorite Discworld book after _Night Watch_), so more of her is good news.
I wonder how many jobs Moist will have to go through.

I think his future is pretty clear - after “Raising Taxes” and whatever other civil service jobs Pterry might think of (let me just say that “Cleaning Privies” should not make the list) , we’ll have “Being Patrician”. Moist is being groomed, since Vimesy is seemingly not working out.

The next Tiffany Aching book has been named ( \*\*\*I Shall Wear Midnight \*\*\*), but I think that’s about it. I don’t have great hopes it’ll ever be written.

I agree, and I was disappointed with _Nation_, the non-Discworld novel that came out instead of _I Shall Wear Midnight._ It was OK, mind you.

Come to think of it, one wonders why Vetinari has never married. (We know he’s almost certainly not gay, in his youth he had that relationship with an Uberwald vampiress.)
The rules of succession to the Patriciate of Ankh-Morpork have never been explained; so far we get the impression it always involves a coup, but that probably is not the case. OTOH, there is no suggestion of any hereditary element, nor of any election process that is not a coup. Perhaps any Patrician who is not a complete disaster has an implicitly acknowledged right to name his successor, like presidents of Mexico during the period of PRI one-party rule.

I expect nothing short of “great” from Pratchett, so _Nation_ was a disappointment to me. I would much rather have had _I Shall Wear Midnight_.

I thought **Midnight** was the _last_ Tiffany book–and there might be one between now and **Midnight**. Granted, that info was from before we knew about Pratchett’s illness.

I too expect nothing short of great and I was not disappointed. I thought Nation was great.

I disagree. I don’t think Moist would be able to handle running the city at any point. Vimes, on the other hand, is well on his way. He’s proven himself to be an able administrator, delegating what he doesn’t have to do, and doing what requires his hand, while still being able to tell what falls into which category. He’s gotten much better at dealing with the Guilds and their leaders, and we’ve seen him gain a bit of diplomacy. I think most likely Vimes will become Patrician, with Moist quite possibly having a major role, and Carrot as the Captain of the Watch.
(And yes, the post-poster combination humor has not escaped me.)
