# Is there a Doctor Who//Pink Floyd connection?

It seems like parts of the Doctor Who theme song sound very similar to parts of very old live Floyd songs. Was any of this intentional/acknowledged?

Not intentional as such but…  
they borrowed a VCS3 synth from the BBC Radiophonic workshop for ‘On the Run’ and the BBC RW did the Doctor Who theme…

from a great article in UNCUT magazine in the UK

Dub Syndicate does a really cool dub version of the Doctor Who theme. The melody is done on what sounds like a mellotron. Very nice and properly spacy.

To my ear anyway, Rick Wright played a bit of the Doctor Who theme in “One of These Days,” just before the vocal bit.

Aren’t the bass lines from “One of These Days” and the Dr. Who theme very similar? Y’know, both are kinda like:

Dump da Dump, Dump da Dump, Dump da Dump, DUMP DAA DUMP.

So to speak…

Well that may explain why I never liked either of them…
