Is There a General Problem With the Net Tonight?

From another website I visit:

9:45 pm EDT Boston - DSL connection.

Wow and I thought it was just me.

I unplugged the modem and router, rebooted and unplugged the modem and router again.

I was not able to connect to Excite (startup page), nor my own website.

I could connect to Google and Yahoo - weird.

Everything seems okay now.

I used to have a cable modem but when AT&T had a ***4 day outage * ** (accompanied by rotten customer service) I told them to shove it. Here’s my sordid story:

I finally took that webpage off of my website not because of pressure from AT&T’s legal department nor the fact that I suddenly thought AT&T became a paragon of efficiency - those AT&T jerks outright sold their cable modem division to Comcast. AT&T’s cable service sucked, they treated people like crap and then they just outright sell their company. – JERKS !!!

Comparing cable modem to DSL I would say cable is somewhat faster, but DSL is more reliable and much less complicated. With DSL, problems can be fixed easier. I always hated calling AT&T’s alleged “help” line only to waste my time reading Ethernet card address registers (or whatever).

Was that helpful to anyone?

There has been DoS attack on Akamai serviced sites at least since Sunday night that has been causing problems. See this Slashdot article for more info.

If you do a “ping www.google.com” you see a hostname something like “www.google.akadns.net” reported, which is Akamai’s dns routing system for Google. Check any site you’re having problems with and see if “akadns” shows up in the ping.

Yet Another Reason I Hate Akamai.
