In case you’d like to stick with Office, you can get Office 2007 Home and Student for $90 at newegg. It comes with Word, Excel and Power Point.

Though office 2007 blows, I will drag my heals for a long time before upgrading at home.

I use office 2007 at work, mostly excel, but word as well. The new design does require some getting used to, but once I did, I did not find it an impediment to my work, in fact, it streamlined some of my tasks. I don’t know if it’s a quirk of my particular type of work with Excel and word, but I found my experience drastically different than most of the people denouncing office 2007 as the Antichrist. Same goes for vista.

It isn’t as full-featured as openoffice, but I recommend RoughDraft - [Untitled Document](http://www.salsbury.f2s.com/rd.htm)

The OP lives in Canada, and NewEgg does not deliver outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Amazon also has it for the same price. I’m not sure if they deliver to Canada either though.

> The problem with google is that it needs internet access, which isn’t always available. I often stay in hotels which charge extra for crappy internet; my house in Spain is in the mountains so the only internet access is via radio and goes down every time it rains. It’s great if you do have good access, but if you know you may lose access you still need a way to open the document locally.

You can get [offline access to google docs](http://blogoscoped.com/archive/2008-01-28-n40.html) with [google gears](http://gears.google.com/). I just installed it tho and can’t really say how well it works.
