Not every woman looks good with long hair. I have fine, very unique and rather deepset features. When I have short hair, I look like a big mass of blue eyes and smiles. When I have long hair, my features just look small and dim and overwhelmed.

I got my hair cut in ninth grade, and havn’t looked back. Nothing beats having to _never_ comb out a tangle or having the back of your shirt all wet and gross after showering and having it get caught on chairs and clothes and doors and stuff. It’s great to actually be able to take a five minute shower, and not worry about having a half-hour fight with my hair if I can’t find conditioner.

That said, I just accidently gave myself my least favorite haircut- very very nearly-shaved short with long bangs. I started out with such good intentions, but it all went so wrong. I can punk it up in to a nice faux-hawk, and that looks pretty cute, but I can’t wear it that way to work and when I don’t do anyhting to it (and I don’t even own any styling products, thats how low-maintance I am) I look kind of like if Elton John were a lesbian. Blegh.

I agree with the poster that said most the women with this haircut are trying to look in control, not sexy.

**Even** I thought you were a man. Just because of the name, you understand.

I refer to it as the '80s cut. It’s horrid…

I have no problems with short hair, long hair, medium hair, as long as it looks good. And my wife knows when I think her hair looks bad too

I think of 80s cuts as long, big and slightly wild hair, kind of like [this](http://www.eightyeightynine.com/pics/hair1a.jpg) . That short upside-down pear-shaped poof does have a bit of a 1980s feel about it, though, and it seems popular among middle class suburban moms who were in high school during that time.

Yikes! A woman with bulb hair wrote me on [match.com](http://match.com). Children, of course; not that I have a problem with it, but of course most bulb-haired women have kids. It was so hard telling her “no”, but I had to be honest.

I probably broke a cardinal rule of online dating in telling her _why_ I don’t see a match, instead of just saying “sorry, not interested.” Being the OP of this thread, though, it was a matter of principle. I had to tell her. I wrote …

\*Thanks for the kudos! Your profile describes a fun, interesting woman. But … I have to tell you a story, though.

A few weeks ago, on a bulletin board I frequent, I was lamenting how, in my advancing age, it seems like an increasing number of women on [match.com](http://match.com) in my age group have short “soccer mom hair.” I get images of Dodge Caravans, soccer practice, Meredith Baxter movies on Lifetime, and PTA meetings when I see it; it sends a message that’s more “mom” than “woman.” I’m not extremely picky when it comes to looks, but “mom hair” is one of my few dealbreakers. I’m sorry.

I don’t man to offend you, but I just want to be honest.

Again, thanks for writing, and good luck in your search.

(me)\*

Flame me all you want for being superficial, but as **Rubysteak** said, it’s a hairstyle that projects an image of being “anal, controlling, detail-oriented, catty, insular, and conformist.” That’s not the kind of woman I’m looking for.
