Is there a name for this beat? Example: [A.M. 180](http://youtube.com/watch?v=QAbtVmciKFY) by Grandaddy.

_Waiting to Know You_ by the Fiery Furnaces is sort of a slowed down version of the same beat. You can hear a clip on iTunes if you don’t have the song.

What is this called? Is there a name?

Do you mean the time signature? It’s 6/8. Count with the high-hat 1-2-3-1-2-3 with the emphasis on the 1 - quite quickly and you’ll have it.
I’ve noticed a lot of emo/nu-metal type stuff in 6/8 but cant back that up as I don’t know the names - just hear it as the kids are watching tv.
Sorry if you wanted a name for this and already knew it was in 6/8, but if you didnt - hope this helps.

It’s just a 12/8 groove with a shuffle kick.
