I imagine librarians hating paperbacks in general. They can’t last long. I’ve checked out ones that were losing pages.

Actually, we love paperbacks because they’re typically 20-25% of the price of a hardcover. Anytime you can stretch the budget like that, it’s appreciated.
And I can’t speak for every librarian, but I’ve noticed most paperbacks don’t start really falling apart until after their popularity has wanted.
I have a hard time finding books in “regular” paperback sizes anymore. Seems to me that it’s mainly romance novels, sci fi, and mysteries that come in that smaller, more affordable size.

A lot of the newer mystery and romance books are coming out in this larger size MM. Especially the big names like Hiaasen, Brown, Clancy, and Steele.

Hey, ebooks are really cheap! Mine retail for just five bucks! Readable on most handheld devices, so they’re as portable as a paperback.
C’mon, take the plunge, you know you wanna …

But I don’t want to be chained to a handheld device. It would make me a slave to electricity to be tied down to an outlet all the time because I would forget to charge it. And then my wife would probably whip me.

Well, see there’s batteries that mean you don’t have to be tied down to an outlet. That’s kinda the POINT of handhelds.
And I’m sorry to hear that your wife has you whipped.
