Is there a Republican message scam going on here?

I avoid getting spam texts by never having donated to a politician. However, I do donate to Daily Kos and those donations go through ActBlue. I usually give a small amount to ActBlue in the process, but neither ActBlue nor politicians spam me for donations. (They don’t know my phone number, so the spams would have to be email, but I still don’t get any.)

Yeah, me, too. I get more texts from people I’m not eligible to vote for than I do from those I am.

I have always been registered as Republican (RINO lately) and have not donated to any Democratic campaign. Yet I get only Democratic pleas for money. Several a day.

I do donate to SPCA, woman’s causes, Shriners etc., so maybe they have me pegged as a soft touch?

GOP fundraisers hunt whales; not us minnows who are the bread and butter of Democratic campaigns. Republicans have a more targeted and transactional approach to seeking donations.

Please consider voting for the WORST candidate in Republican primaries so moderates & swing voters will be less likely to vote Republican.

It’s simple: if you ever donated money via ActBlue, you are on “the list” and every Democrat in the country will send you fundraising requests until the end of time. They’re not trying to annoy you, they’re just always really desperate for money.

I personally receive about 100 emails and texts from them every single day. I delete virtually all of them immediately.

I concur; I donated to the woman running against Senator Cotton, and it seems that every Democratic candidate in every state is texting me. I assumed they shared donators. Lately I have had a mass expansion in spam texts. I presume someone stole the list of Democratic donators and sold it.

I’m quite firmly of the opinion that this is too prone to backfiring to ever be worth it.

In my red state of Kansas, GOP primary winners win most of the general elections. I would rather have a less-than-insane candidate on the ballot than a full-blown insane person.

My spam file fills up with multiple requests from both parties, despite the fact that I am a registered Dem, more like plankton than a minnow, and only donate politically to local candidates. The people who want your money will take it and then sell your address/phone number.

The MAGA requests are pretty amusing because they get threatening and abusive: “You have 3 hours to complete your questionnaire and show you are MAGA!” “I haven’t heard from you Bobsmom! Are you a Socialist?”

A bunch of people tried that in 2015. How are you enjoying the result?

I get similar, from candidates & charities. (Just emails, my cellphone is a flip phone that just makes phone calls, so no texts.)

I do occasionally enjoy reading some of them trying to figure out who the candidate is and what office they are running for, in what state. Often I can’t – to make it seem ‘personal’, they will only have the candidates’ first name, have vague generic statements like “we need [first name] working for us and fighting corruption in office”, but usually no specific location or even office. Sometimes they say "fighting for us in [town name] – so if I can remember 60 years back to the list of State Capitols I once knew, I can at least identify the state.

Kind of fun to see how much you can identify without looking them up or clicking thru to their campaign website, which usually has the legal identifying info.
