is this why they charge you like 9 dollars for a bucket of popcorn and a mediocre soda filled mainly with ice? i could get 10 cases of popcorn at walmart for what they charge me to basically get through the previews of the damn movie. first they charge you about $20 to see the movie, then get you some more, when they charge you ten bucks for popcorn. and GOD FORBID you want nachos…well you have to be a millionare for that. well…at least dodgeball was worth the $20 to see it.

Movie theaters make very little money selling the actual movie tickets - the film studios get most of it. The theaters have to charge a lot on soda/popcorn to make a profit.

We go to the show about twice a year. Even with the cheapo matinee prices, we still can’t get out for under $20. So it had better be something that, 1) can only be fully experienced on large screen, and 2) I’ll die if I don’t see it. Other than that, we wait for it to come out on video. Fuck those raping losers. Most of the movies aren’t all that hot anyway.

Took my kids to see the latest Harry Potter last week. It cost $30 by the time we paid for our tickets, two drinks, and each kid wanted candy. (Might as well go all out, eh?) The movie was good and I was happy that the kids were happy, but the prices completely shocked me.

I hadn’t been in a theater for more than a dozen years, and that experience did not leave me inclined to return anytime soon. I’ll be heading back to the drive-in next time there’s something I want to see.
