Can anyone post some links to growling? I’d like to hear the differences in styles, intonations, etc.

> It’s a styling associated with blues and rock. Linda Ronstadt was one of the first female country singers I heard use it, as country rock became a thing. Others who did it included [Anita Carter (at around 0:45)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoK73ZUIflE) and [Marie Owens.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q6G5hMf1HE)

I apologise for reviving a year-old thread. But I’m binge-watching the Ken Burns documentary on country music, and it features this 1958 performance by Wanda Jackson, who I was not really familiar with. She uses the technique described above, earlier than any of the singers I mentioned.

I _think_ I’ve heard that technique referred to as “cornbread,” but I’m not able to find anything online to confirm it.
