[Werther’s](https://www.werthers-original.us/en/home) has expanded their products. There are many varities of either hard candy or soft chewy candy. They offer sugar free too. I usually buy Werther’s original candy or Werther’s Caramel Coffee hard candy. I enjoy letting hard candies dissolve in my mouth. Many prefer soft caramels. Sugar free is a great option. What’s your Werther’s favorites? The 80’s and 90’s featured a grandfather offering his grandson Werther’s Original. The 00’s switched to a modern image. Hell to the yeah! I love Werther’s Original. Since I was a kid I’ve always liked letting them soften in my mouth before biting in and letting them stick to my teeth. I don’t think I’ve tried any other variety, but Caramel Coffee sounds awesome. I’d love it if they made a Butterscotch one (maybe they do - I’ve just never encountered them). ---

Back in the day I enjoyed the Originals. Kept a bowl of them on my desk at work. Which might have something to do with giving myself diabetes while on that job. Sigh. No Werther’s for me now; I refuse to eat artificially sweetened darn near anything. Agree w @Thumper668 that if they made a butterscotch those would be like crack; nobody can eat just one … handful. ---

My parents carried Werther’s Original Hard candies in their pockets, purses and cars to use when they would get a coughing fit. And just like in the commercials, they would offer them to the grandchildren. I never thought they would be a commercial stereotype but they were. ---

Being pre-diabetic, we get the sugar-free hard candies, of which there seem to be three flavors: regular caramel, “choco” flavored, and coffee flavored. The last one is actually my favorite of the three, even though I don’t like coffee. One after dinner, because we don’t eat dessert. ---

I like the occasional Werther’s Original hard candy. In general, I tend to go for the sort of caramels that will rip your fillings out at ten paces, however. ---

I’m with @Roderick_Femm - the coffee flavored one is the one I buy when I’m in the mood. But given the cost, the empty calories, and the rareness of my hankering for hard candies it’ll be years between buying a bag. Then they’ll get eaten pretty quickly (say a month), and then the long pause begins again. ---

I don’t buy it much for myself, but if it’s offered to me, I’ll gladly take a piece or two of the original hard candy. I keep it in my mouth for a minute or two before biting into it. ---

I’m losing weight for a trip, and I’ve been keeping a Sugar-Free Caramel Coffee Werther’s in my jacket pocket, for when I have the urge to give in to a big treat (I’d kill for a donut…). But I’ve ony been able to find that sugar-free flavor at a random dollar store. Any other suggestions of where you’ve seen those? I need to stock up this weekend. ---

Amazon has a good selection of Werther’s varieties. I use Walmart for the Werther’s Original. I’ve cut back on my consumption. I usually have a hard candy after lunch and dinner. Brush my teeth soon after to remove the sugar in my mouth. I can see where soft caramel is a bigger concern. It sticks to the teeth. ---

Werthers will not give you diabetes. They won’t help your condition, but candy and sweet eating does not cause the disease. You were probably treating a glycemic low when you reached for a candy. ---

You’re certainly right that sweets as such don’t directly cause type 2 diabetes (“DM2”). But for those (like me) with the genetic susceptibility to DM2, who then proceed to ~~let~~ make themselves get fat through over-eating and mis-eating and sedentary but high stress lifestyle (like me), the consequences often come home to roost. Congrats; you’ve given yourself DM2. Oops. _Then_ it’s time to stop eating things that are high in simple carbs or are concentrated forms of simple carbs. Of which stuff Werther’s makes a decent poster child. Your situation as a lifetime DM1 has some similarities, but is far more difficult to manage. ---

My buddy lost a crown on a soft Werther’s a couple days ago at the movies. He spent much of the show trying to pick the caramel off the crown. mmm ---

I’ve had that exact same thing happened - though it was with gummy candy or similar, and it was at a movie. I had one crown that came off on three different occasions - it was too large to begin with. The third time I had it reglued, it broke when they were trying to do that, and the dentist remade it. I argued that this was the THIRD TIME, and she waived whatever insurance didn’t pay. None of my other permanent crowns have ever come loose. ---

I stopped back in to say HUZZAH! I found the Sugar-Free Caramel Coffee Werther’s… in a Walgreen’s that I’d checked before. So I stocked up, and I’m planning on keeping a couple in my pockets on an upcoming hike/bike/dike trip.
