> Agreed. That’s ridiculous and not going to happen.
>
> However, your “the left is just as violent as the right” position isn’t borne out by facts. Sure, there might have been violent leftist organizations in the 60’s and 70’s but those days are long gone. These days the only voices calling for violent action against the government are on the right. And going beyond the inflammatory rhetoric, the only acts of partisan violence committed in recent years have been committed by the right. What action by radical leftists is comparable to the Murrah Building bombing? The Weather Underground is dead and gone, but the militia movement is still very much alive.

About 900 people died at Jonestown, more than twice as many as died at the Murrah Building.

The Unabomber killed several people and tried to bomb a jetliner.

Left-wing hate-mongering and demogoguery includes the Tawana Brawley hoax, the Jena 6 hoax, and the Duke University rape hoax, all of which involved the left pandering to anti-white racism.

Two Black Panthers harassed and threatened white voters at a polling place in Pennsylvania (the Justice Department refused to investigate).

American Renaissance had to move the site for their annual conference four times due to harassment and threats against the hotels where the conference was supposed to be held. Anonymous callers threatened to kill hotel employees.

“Purple shirt” union goons have showed up at town hall meetings to intimidate conservatives.

Animal rights radicals have vandalized laboratories and threatened the lives and families of medical researchers.

Arson and vandalism by radical environmentalists has destroyed millions of dollars worth of property.

Three hundred anarchists rioted in Vancouver protesting the Olympics.

Protesters have rioted at G7 summit meetings. (To be fair, most of the protesters were peaceful and deplored the violence.)

And just to rub the point in one more time, Stalin and Mao killed four to six times as many people as Hitler. Strangely enough, almost no Communists have ever been brought to trial for crimes agains humanity. The only examples I can think of are a few of the Khmer Rouge.

Remember, someone who talks real pretty about equality, social justice, change and hope, and all that other noble sounding slop can still be a genocidal psychopath.

Jonestown? Tawanna Brawley? Duke University rape? Thsese somehow relate to “left” and “violent”?

Sorry - I wasn’t clear. I have no problem sending the bill back to the house because of rules violations. The issues are minor but fixing them is the right thing to do. When I wrote about hoping that the Dems would stand up to Repub intimidation, I meant to say: I hope that the Democrats who voted for the bill don’t let themselves be terrorized into voting with the Republicans and the Republican-stoked thuggery.

And yes, I standby calling the threats and vandalism Republican intimidation. They’re not just innocent bystanders here. Not with Boehner and his mealy-mouthed “yes, but” condemnations. Not with Republican representatives leading the mob from the capitol balcony. Not with Republican politicians nationwide spreading lies and threatening lawsuits and talking about this bill as if it were the end of the world.

That’s the real difference between what I see happening today and Polecats list. He’s got random whackos going back 70 years. I’m talking current Republican leadership encouraging violence in their followers.

Those are examples of left wing demagoguery appealing to anti-white racism in which Al Sharpton and the prosecutor in the Duke attempted to wreck the lives of their victims to advance their own careers. They are examples of the left running amok without regard for the consequences of their actions for others. And if you don’t understand that Jonestown was a massive act of violence by a left-wing radical, then your concept of political violence has nothing to do with reality. But you’re the guy who insists that Michael Moore inviting big shots from the Democratic party to attend the premier of Fahrenheit 911 was “just some people watching a movie,” so there’s no point in expecting a serious conversation with you.

Don’t piss on my leg and tell me it’s raining.
When I wrote about hoping that the Dems would stand up to Repub intimidation, I meant to say: I hope that the Democrats who voted for the bill don’t let themselves be terrorized into voting with the Republicans and the Republican-stoked thuggery.
So…just to be clear here, what you are hoping is that the Dems ram this thing down the Republicans throats without allowing the Republicans to have any input at all into the process. Right? That’s what you are really saying, leaving aside the hyperbolic terrorized and thuggery comments.

And you don’t see the irony in this stance, correct? Or how this attitude is going to eventually turn on the Democrats and on this bill…correct?

You guys act as if there weren’t death threats or even violence from the left over the Iraqi war, Bush’s tax cuts or any number of other things that happened during the last administration. I remember people marching through the streets burning effigies of GW with a noose around his neck for the gods sake! I’m fairly sure that there were death threats against Republican members of congress, the President, VP and gods know who else during the Bush administration. Where was the outrage then?

That said, I think that the Republicans have riled their base up in a way that is completely unconscionable. They have filled them with both hate and misinformation (lies) concerning this bill, and have fired them up past all reason. It’s like both sides want to show they can one up the other party. During Clinton’s administration the Republicans did X. During Bush’s reign the Dems then pushed the envelop by doing X+Y. Now, the Republicans have come back by upping the ante again…which probably means that when the Dems are out and the Pubs back in we can expect it to just keep going up. Where will it end? When some nutjob on one side of the other goes completely around the bend due to the propaganda and political tension and kills someone? Kills a lot of someones? Do you people (Democrats AND Republicans) not see where this is all headed?

No…you don’t. What you see is that today the Republicans are being mean to you and doing things that you don’t like, since the worm has turned, and they have gone from the party holding the whip over you (and how did you enjoy it when they rammed things down YOUR throat) to the party out of power, pretty much helpless with the whip over their head. And the Republicans don’t see it either, since what they see is that they were just trying to do ‘what was right’ when they were in power, and they were constantly under attack from the opposition, and now they are out of power and getting stuff rammed down their throats that they don’t agree with or believe in, that they think are wrong, and there is nothing they can do about it except swallow…and vent.

Sorry, we disagree strongly here. I don’t see the Republicans inciting violence here, no matter how angry they are. The people responsible for the threats are the people making the threats.

I think telling people that a health care bill contains eugenics provisions that will kill their grandparents or children is inciting violence.

It is clearly incorrect to say that the Republicans had no input or chance to participate. They chose, of their own free will and rampant arrogance, to sit out of the process. The bill passed without them - but they have only themselves to blame for it.

And the word ‘thuggery’ is honestly the most charitable term I can think of for attempting to intimidate legislators by threatening their families, vandalizing their homes, and ginning up mobs on the Capitol lawn.

> [@](#):
>
> And you don’t see the irony in this stance, correct? Or how this attitude is going to eventually turn on the Democrats and on this bill…correct?

_Eventually?_ It’s been Republican SOP for the last decade. And as I said, nobody ‘rammed’ anything down their throats. It’s their own fault they thought that holding their breathe until they turned blue was a viable negotiating position.

I’m fairly sure that there were death threats against Republican members of congress, the President, VP and gods know who else during the Bush administration. Where was the outrage then?

Were Democratic Party Leaders present while Bush was burning in effigy?

Where were the Democratic Congressmen giving speeches to crowds carrying shouting nigger and faggot? Republicans King (IA), Bachmann (MN), Pence (IN), & Kingston (GA) all addressed that hateful crowd last week. Have any of them condemned the hate speech? Or the sign referring to using a Browning to solve their problems?

Where were the Democratic Presidential candidates urging their supporters: “Do Not Retreat, Reload!”

Where was the Democratic House Minority Leader declaring their opponents “Dead man”?

Where were the Democratic Congressmen giving standing ovation for protesters disrupting the House?

Where were the Democratic Congressmen so stupid they didn’t know who they should be shouting ‘babykiller’ at, telling flat out lies about how the IRS is going to unleash waves of agent to arrest everyone, how the legislation is going to destroy America and should, must, be stopped.

Oh that’s right - it’s _Republican_ leaders doing all those things to fan the flames. That’s the difference between then and now. Unless you can show the Democratic Party leaders participating in the Bush burnings - it’s not the same.

Bullshit. Please find cites for the Democratic leaders doing any of the things I mentioned upthread. Or any of the things -you- said in that part of the quote I highlighted.

Cite for Democratic party leaders riling up their base to a completely unconscionable limit?

Cite for Democratic party leaders filling his base with hate and lies?

Cite for Democratic party leader firing up people “past all reason”?

Cite for Democratic party leaders cheering on disruptions in the House spectators?

Cite for Democratic Congressmen leading cheers from the Capitol Balcony while voting is going on?

Cite for the Democratic Minority Leader telling a Republican congressman that he’s a dead man?

Cite for Democratic leaders addressing crowds on the capital lawn, shouting ‘faggot’ and ‘nigger’ and spitting on Republican congressman?

Cite for Democratic leaders urging their supporters to “reload” and publishing a map with gun sights over their districts?
Because that’s what I’m furious about. The Republican Leadership is calling this dance. Until you can provide those cites - and I’m not holding my breathe - I don’t give a bucket of warm piss for attempts to whitewash this with false equivalence.

I asked this in another thread, but never got an answer, so I’d like to repeat my question here.

Several speakers stated, after the bill was passed on Sunday, that the bill contains about 200 Republican-proposed amendments. Is this untrue? If so, how many Republican-proposed amendments were contained in the final bill? If not, how many Republican-proposed amendments are necessary for the bill to be considered bipartisan?

Fourteen months of work, thousands of hours of debate, hundreds of committee meetings and amendments, and the best answer is “we don’t know what’s in the bill”?

Forgive me, I don’t mean to seem rude, but this just isn’t realistic. Somebody knows what’s in the bill - and if that somebody is making the statement that there’s NOTHING in the bill that’s Republican-sponsored and therefore the bill is not bipartisan and was rammed down the Republicans’ throats without any Republican involvement, then that somebody surely knows what’s in the bill, right?

This was a well written article by a Marine telling people calling for violence and civil war due to the political strife that they’d never be able to fight against the military and win.

I just want you to simply compare and contrast your work environment with ours and ask yourselves “Who is better suited to win this battle ?” We both know the answer here, and if you doubt that answer, look at the results from Fallujah in 2004. Over 1200 of them ‘lost’ and we 'lost only 28. That’s a ‘win-ratio’ of almost 60-1, and they’ve been fighting their whole lives.

In short, they’ve forgotten more than you will ever know about football. The result, will be a slaughter for you, and a practice for them. But at least you’ll get a chance to sit at home, ice your wounds and say ‘whew I never should’ve done that!’

Plus considering how much emulation the right has for the military, I don’t see them setting up IEDs anytime soon. Add to that the fact that the people calling for violence tend to be 50+ with no military experience, and its obvious what would happen.

> Nine members of a Christian militia group, including one from northwest Indiana, are accused of plotting to kill a Michigan police officer and then stage an attack on other officers attending his funeral.
>
> Members of the group, Hutaree, plotted to attack law enforcement vehicles during the funeral procession with “improvised explosive devices” and “explosively-formed projectiles,” the U.S. attorney’s office said. According to a federal indictment, members of the group view local, state and federal law enforcement as the “brotherhood,” their enemy. The plot dates to August 2008, the indictment says.
