[A psychotherapist has been testifying this week that she believes that Arias was a victim of physical and emotional abuse.](http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_BOYFRIEND_SLAYING?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-04-09-17-24-23) I think the prosecutor seems to have done a terrific job of destroying her credibility. I bet she sees a drop-off in the number of patients she has; I know I wouldn’t continue to use her services after I found out about this testimony. ---

Twenty-seven times.” I think the idea she’s selling is not that each stabbing was technically necessary for self-defense. It’s that her traumatized Battered Woman mindset caused her to lash out this way. (Which does not mean that the defense itself is an insanity defense. The idea is that the initial killing was technically self-defense, and the subsequent stabbings were not what killed him anyway, but also are not inconsistent with her story.) ---

FINALLY, the defense rests. I didn’t even know you guys had a thread until I googled it today. Anybody still paying attention? I’m only half listening right now but it seems Martinez has a witness up now to further discredit defense witness Laviolette. ---

[Jurors got the case today](http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_BOYFRIEND_SLAYING?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-05-03-21-10-55). I can’t imagine this taking long to return a decision, but then again one never knows what might come up in deliberations. I thought her attorney was doing a good job by reminding the jurors that even if they don’t like her, they still have to consider just the facts of the case. It seemed like he was laying obvious groundwork for an appeal. I think there’s just too much evidence against her, tho. ---

The internet is driving me crazy. “Why would he continue to have sex with someone he claims to have been afraid of?” Okay. Why would she drive hundreds of miles for hours to surprise visit someone she claims is an abusive asshole who only ever used her for sex and always made her feel bad about herself? Why would she not only drive all that way but then _have sex with him_, too? ---

They were making a big deal about why wouldn’t she have killed him while he was asleep, or while his back was to her in the shower. To me, that says she wanted him to see it coming. StG ---

If anyone knows about the [Mormon sex in chains case](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_sex_in_chains_case), or the documentary[Tabloid](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1704619/)made about it, you’ll see some startling similarities in the way things played out. In that case there was just a kidnapping, no murder, but there must be something about obsessive sex crazed women and Mormon guys. ---

You mean like “You’ll spend your life in prison up until the day we execute you in a manner consistent with the laws of this state,” yeah? Totally not against the DP here. I get that people are though and I’ll be happy with either sentence, really. As long as she’s never free again. ---
