You want creepy, this is what I saw during lunch today: I’m sitting at Panera by myself reading the newspaper and finishing my chicken rice soup. Dude wanders in talking to no one around him. I think he must have one of those bluetooth thingys. Nope. The guys talking to himself. Takes a seat at a table next to me and hangs up his jacket on the back of the chair. Then he wanders over to the trash, looks down in it, sticks his arm down in it to mess with something, then pulls his arm out. Wanders back to his seat, reaches in his pocket and pulls out a seashell. Then he just sits there talking to himself, never ordered any food or anything, playing with his seashell. Okay, hate to cut my lunch short, but I’m outta here, see you later freakin creepy dude. ---

My wife is a cancer doctor, a radiation oncologist. Many of her colleagues are into kid’s books and movies. One is a major Harry Potter geek (including Fan Fic & the whole 9 yards). Others like Disney movies or teen Sword & Sorcery novels. My wife doesn’t like to talk about it a lot, but it has to do with coping with the often tragic nature of their work. There seems to be something in kid-lit & animated movies that offers some sort of catharsis or escapism or balm for the soul. ---

I’m married with no children, and I have a shelf overflowing with Disney animated movies. I imagine not a lot would change in that department if I was single. Actually, I might have an even larger collection. (I have an ‘excuse,’ though.) ---
