**Lib** , if you want an education in the language of the law, a great place to start is with a book by David Mellinkoff, [The Language of the Law](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0316566276/qid=1093316249/sr=8-5/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i5_xgl14/103-0217978-3342231?v=glance&s=books&n=507846). It is a “scholarly treatment of legal language from its earliest days until the 1970s.” It’s also fascinating reading.

The same author has a [dictionary accessible for laymen of legal terms](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0314010602/qid=1093316435/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-0217978-3342231?v=glance&s=books), and a book perhaps more pertinent to the underlying theme of this thread: [Conscience of a Lawyer](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0314284028/qid=1093316435/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/103-0217978-3342231?v=glance&s=books).

Nota bene: I am not a lawyer, but am through my work well-read in many aspects of the law. Certainly well-enough acquainted with the field to avoid litigation if at all possible. 😉
