Thank you for the information. Guess I will have to take my chances. I must confess that I am a little disappointed with what passes for ‘liberal’ here, but I am willing to hang in a little longer. A friend has suggested that I go a little more mainstream liberal and try the Democratic Underground. Perhaps one day, I am sincerely interested to see where things are going to go here at The Straight Dope.
I am eager to see the United States become more socialistic, as long as we continue to offer financial incentives for extraordinary work by employees. What the rest of the world does is their business. Frankly, I wish they would leave America alone. These third world types always have their hand out begging for help, then when we give it to them we are the invaders/bad guys.
Egypt changed their Government all by themselves. Kuddos. These third world countries need to figure things out for themselves, certainly without American help, (though I do give special consideration to those brave Lybians who are trying to do the impossible, but they are trying to change their government on their own).
I think I am capable of deciding my use of the size, and color controls in my posts. After all the software designers put them there for a reason. So, please allow me to express myself my way under my First Amendment rights. Do I have this correct, Adolph?
Actually, you do not seem to be capable of determining your own fonts, given that you are using middle school tactics in a discussion with adults. Once in a while is fine for emphasis. To the extent that you employ them, they are distracting and, ultimately, simply annoying, giving your readers the impression that you are not capable of actually having a debate that is carried out through the use of language instead of histrionics.
The software designers put them in to be available to any potential user. This board is a specific subset of software users that does not enjoy seeing it abused. The makers of megaphones sell them to allow people to raise their voices above the noise of crowds, but I would suggest that it is still inappropriate to employ them at concerts, church gatherings, or courtrooms.
Your First Amendment rights are in no danger. (Are you genuinely that ignorant of this issue?) This is a privately held board permitted to set whatever rules the board management deems appropriate to good order. To be a First Amendment issue, you would have to find the government ordering you to limit your fonts and colors on a web site that you created.
Calling Moderators names, (particularly when whining about responses to one’s own poor behavior), is not a particularly bright choice of actions. This is your only pass on that misstep. (And for Heaven’s sake, learn how to spell the guy’s name if you are going to throw it around as an insult. That sort of ignorance will really come back to smack you in the face.)
Any further complaints about staff actions need to be taken up in a separate thread in the About This Message Board forum, not in this thread.
“*By 2020, the United States will have 123 million high-skill jobs to fill—and fewer than 50 million Americans qualified to fill them.*¹”
The fact is, the US does not have enough skilled labour to fill the ever-growing demand in this sector of the workforce looking into the future². Not that a ‘flood’ of menial workers are engulfing the country and taking jobs born and bred schmos could / would want to do. In fact, by happenchance, last night I came across a news report of US businesses so desperate for workers willing to earn their stripes and rise to the top that they’ve turned to enlisting ex-cons as their companies’ future!
(*Apparently those who have served time [~15%] are deemed to be more diligent and reliable than kids fresh out of pupillage who want nothing more than a ‘stepping stone’ to the pipe dream of fortune and glory).
This isn’t exclusive to the US however, as other Western nations have this issue looming also; thus are outsourcing to the Indias and Chinas of the world (…in turn fermenting a slew of security and ‘nationalistic’ related concerns within their respective populaces).
The US’ problem seemingly has largely to do with the outmoded, far from egalitarian and dysfunctional education system they’re heaped with which is built around providing the country with primarily low-skilled workers and effectively ‘capping’ skilled worker output.

Before you call this forum ‘adult’ I might suggest you read some posts. As in the real world of politics, ‘the squeeky wheel gets the grease.’ All we have to do is look at the Teabaggers to bear this out.
Where I learned about message board posting, when a poster resorts to ‘spelling errors’ as a defense, I have won the day. For the record I am mildly dyslexic which explains the spelling errors.
I have decided to come back and give this website another chance. It is small, antiquated technology, and from what I have seen moderators really do not understand their responsibilities.
As far as thread viewers are concerned, I think they can make up their own mind about my posts without a moderator interpretation. FYI, a pontificator is a pontificator, regardless of member, viewer, or moderator status. Can’t stand the heat? Stay out of the…
“Is there really a shortage of jobs, or have we failed to solve the overpopulation problem?” **
Friend of mine manages a warehouse. When he started there 12 years ago there were 7 employees. Since 1999 my friend has become manager of the warehouse, and through automation, and the declining economy there are now only 5 employees.
This means two less jobs. Other similar warehouses in the medical field have experienced similar cut backs. Future needs seem to indicate they will probably stay at 5 employees, but could, if times improve, add 1 employee. So overall in the last 12 years and with future projections. One less worker is needed in the warehouse. That will be one less paycheck, and one less person working.
As these are not highly skilled positions they will probably not be attracting college types, but the population is increasing among the less skilled, and they are reproducing at an uncontrolled, alarming rate. We have less jobs, but we are getting more poor.
Everyone on this planet needs a monetary source, either from 1). Inheritance, 2). Paycheck from work, 3). Welfare, or 4). Crime. Our planet is producing way more poor and uneducated than we could possibly need. Sadly, in the end it will be welfare checks or crime that will pay the bills. While African Americans are moving up, Mexican Americans, especially illegals are dropping fast.
This is not class warfare, but those who over populate are automatically punished by our economic system. We just need to keep making life tougher on them so they do not reproduce. Until these overpopulating idiots get the message this society will continue to kick them harder, and harder until they do.
You are acknowledging that the poorest people are the most likely to reproduce, correct? Taking the above into account, how can you then say the following?
The people with the toughest lives are the ones who have the most offspring. Fertility rates rise with poverty.
Also, can you please clarify the following?
What is meant by “moving up,” and “dropping fast?”
