Zeke, apologies - it’s not for me to say whether you are ready to get married or not. Your pain and bitterness about your early family struggles comes through loud and clear, and I would suggest that you be honest with potential Mrs. Zekes about your pessimism about marriage and finances. Will she be going into the marriage also assuming that it’s [only temporary](http://www.theonion.com/onion3646/darling_will_you_spend.html)? 😃

Like the examples I gave, above - one was a situation where one person came into the marriage with assets and one didn’t - the prenup dealt with assets accumulated prior to the marriage, and assumes that assets gained while married will be split 50/50. She’s a doctor, he’s an investment banker, both will have money eventually. The second was a situation where people planned from the beginning to create their own nest eggs. I don’t see the harm in prenups - far better to figure it out while you still like each other and can joke about it. Hopefully you won’t need it in the long run.

Thanks. You just made my day.

Yesterday someone flirted with me. Today someone enjoyed my photos. I’m really getting to like this thread. I’ve heard of birds building a nest out of thread, but is it possible for me to build a nest in this thread?

I get nothing if we are married for less than 10 years, no alimony, no flat payment, no house, nothing. (Unless we have children, then there’s child support to consider). We each get approximately what we came into the marriage with.

Additionally, if either of us feel it necessary, we can extend that 10 years to twelve (or 14) by calling the lawyer.

The theory behind this was if we are going thru a bad time in our marriage, instead of being pressured to end the marriage because the 10 year end-of-prenup deadline is approaching, we could add 2 years (and two again for a total of a 14 year prenup) to work things out, get counselling, whatever.

That help?

Now that IS interesting. I need to process that for a while to ‘grok it in fullness’, but I think I’ve got the idea.

Anyone else out there have prenup they’d like to share??
