I’m having a friend build me a computer, and he’s found someone who can get this MLB wholesale with an employees discount, so I can get it cheap. I’m not an expert on motherboards, so though it looks good and like it can handle what I have in mind for it, I may be overlooking something. Any time I buy computer stuff, I do a few Google groups searches for the product name and then a word like “problem”, “error”, or “help”. I can’t recommend doing this enough – it’s saved me countless hours of frustration. ---

This is a [well-regarded](http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.html?i=1820) mobo. In fact, it’s at the top of my short list for my new PC, and if your friend could get me a good price on it too… 🙂 Seriously! There aren’t too many 875 chipset mobos out there yet. (Intel’s new 800 MHz FSB) My other primary contender is Intel’s own [reference board.](http://www.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030519/i875p-15.html) ---

Oops… I’m withdrawing my reccomendation of the MSI 875 NEO-FIS2R mobo. It’s also been unceremoniously dumped from my "short list"of choices to buy for my new PC. Seems there’s been an inordinate number of [problems](http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=1033909) with it, and that MSI is pulling a “fast one” and [strayed from Intel’s specs](http://www17.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030522/fsb_overclocking-01.html) for the 875 chipset. For what it’s worth, I’m back to Intel’s [D875PBZ](http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030519/i875p-15.html) board. _Maximum PC_ magazine gave it a “Kick Ass” rating. Closing comments in the print article: “…fastest stock performance available…and the rock-solid Intel name.”
