I wasn’t enthralled by Study in Scarlet until I found out more about the exposure to Mormonism that Doyle might have had in Scotland. There’s more Mormon history here (and houses of worship, too) than I’d ever thought. And there was still, at the time, a large flow of Mormons emigrating from here to Utah- Until the church decided that one could be a good Mormon anywhere in the world.
Now it’s interesting, but still not my favourite.
