At any rate, as much as it may seem, on the surface, that our legislatures should be reading each bill they vote on, they vote on a lot of bill, and those bills are often really, really long. It’s completely unrealistic to say that they should read what they’re voting on before they do, to be honest. I know I couldn’t read as much as they would have to.

I assume, however, that their staves (well, that is the plural of “staff”, right?) at least skim the things before they advise the legislators.

Is it also unrealistic to expect them to know what the hell the bill is about before they sign off on it?

All I said was that they didn’t read them. If they don’t know what it does, and they sign it anyway, they oughta be shot. Or at least drummed out of office in utter humiliation.

And here is one of my many complaints about health and welfare programs. If they exist at all they should be free, and not require a buy in greater than many people can afford. It’s as if they put a 90% subsidy on Concorde flights to Europe, if you’re not rich, there’s no way you can benefit from it, even though your taxes paid for it.

This logic would also eliminate a needs test for most welfare, and rightly so. The rich as well as the poor should be able to live in the projects and get food stamps. We allow everyone to attend taxpayer supported schools, do we not? Surely the rich who pay taxes should have access to Medicaid and free lunch programs.
