Is this really a consequence of Obamacare?

If by “a lot”, you mean “some”, then yeah. The vast majority do not take effect until 2014.

I don’t know about the vast majority. The more significant ones don’t take effect until 2014 (or 2018, in the case of the excise tax).

But there are a lot of regs that took effect in 2011, see e.g. Welcome site-press.com - BlueHost.com

I’m not sure about the details, but my employer is having some trouble with the new laws, because too many of our employees get insurance elsewhere (through spouses) than is permitted, or something. We only have 8 employees, but the ratio still seems to apply, so there’s some issue where the company has to pay a bunch to get them insured, or something. I don’t know the details, but does anyone know what I’m talking about here? Perhaps the hospital doesn’t insure enough of its own employees?

So before he was even considering a run in 2006, you blame him? And what would have happened if he lost? The increases from 2006-2008 would have been McCain’s fault because “healthcare reform was due to come up”? Face it, you’re just bitter because somebody’s insuring the uninsured and your piece of the pie has gotten smaller

And great job not buying a new car, even though government stock in GM has been paid back and we will actually make money once it’s on the market again.

Are you going to tell me you didn’t feel that gust as strong as it was?

It parted my hair.

Well that’s good to know, Marley, as I’m mostly in favor of the plan and I call it Obamacare because most of the time I can’t remember the official name it has, and when I do remember it, people I speak to typically give me “that look” and don’t know what the hell I’m talking about until I say “Obamacare.”

The man pushed and pushed it and staked his Party’s career on it. If he and his supporters can’t accept ownership of it, for better or worse, that’s their problem, not mine. I think Obamacare was a good thing, except that it didn’t go far enough to guarantee coverage for low and no-income folks, and the pre-existing coverage gap is utter bullshit. These coverage gaps, especially the pre-existing conditions gap, directly go against my Conservative values, and I can’t support leaving so many in the lurch for health care.

FWIW, if I were Obama I’d be damn proud to hear it be called “Obamacare.”

It’s not about ownership, whatever that means. We know who pushed for the bill. It’s about the intent of conservatives who coined and popularized “Obamacare” as a nickname for the reform push and the law. Maybe it’s passed into common enough usage that I shouldn’t have that reaction, but when I hear “Obamacare,” I still expect it to be followed by “is a government takeover of health care that is going to bankrupt the country and lead to rationing of health care that will end with death panels.”

Just Google it.

“Provided” …“mandated”

“Healthcare” …“insurance”

“penalty” … “tax”

Plenty bad enough.

You’ve really no idea what that term means? Search to find other examples of the use of the term in context.

I hear and read and see the term used equally by Left, Right, and Radical Middle. People I know on the Right who want to deride it are more likely to refer to it as “Obama’s takeover of 1/6 of our economy” or “government takeover of healthcare.” The most absolutely rabid arch-liberals I know in real life proudly refer to it as Obamacare. IMO being afraid of the term reflects an insecurity about the merits of the legislation. As I said, I don’t like it 100% because I think it didn’t go far enough, and I think some liberals are embarrassed that it didn’t go far enough. I can’t help that they’re embarrassed about that; I take the Conservative viewpoint which is that the law can yet evolve to be what it really should be, and that there’s a lot of hope for it.

It’s no different than “Bush Tax Cuts.”

I use either Obamacare because even after reading this I do not remember its proper name. It is either that or “the new federal health car law that was past.” Call me lazy if you want.

In time there is a lt in that law that people are going to be shocked about. But by the time some of the sections begin to be inacted I hope to be retired, and I should be on medicare the plan that was passed so retirees would have health care at no cost. If I remember right.

I forgot to ad that what the OP’s friend is claiming does not add up right. If his employeer is with holding money from his pay check and claiming it is because of Obamacare he should make a trip to the labor board.
