Well I learned something. I wasn’t aware that hydrogen fuel cell cars were on the market. It appears that someone told Trump that hydrogen is combustible and he went from there. Apparently these cars are safer than gasoline powered cars. The real issue is the lack of fueling stations. But he will just keep on with his narrative, just like he continues to insist that wind power means no electricity if the wind isn’t blowing. I used to think he was just trolling his supporters but now I think that he really is that stupid and is completely incapable of acquiring any new information. ---

Trump doesn’t even understand what a battery is. There’s no way he’s capable of understanding a fuel cell. He probably thinks they’re pumping the car full of hydrogen gas like it’s the Hindenburg. ---

Also I gather that storing the stuff is hard it being both prone to leaking and hydrogen embrittlement (hydrogen atoms are so small they can seep _into_ metals and weaken them). But the fire danger of hydrogen is overrated. Since it’s so light burning hydrogen - and the heat it produces - goes rapidly straight up, as opposed to petrochemical fires which form burning pools. The Hindenburg disaster was spectacular, but there were actually a large number of survivors; about two-thirds of the people on board. ---

It’s hard to come up with new things to say about Trump, but I thought this analysis from Ezra Klein of the _New York Times_ was especially insightful.
