Personally, my assumption was that it was a euphemism for taking a shit. Like “I have to see a man about a horse”. ---

If it wasn’t actually confusion, my thought is the same as yours. For somebody who used the term “shit-hole country” in a speech, referring to taking a dump as “dealing with (the) Afghanistan” seems like about the sort of 8yo boy humor he seems to favor. I enjoy that humor too, but mostly in the privacy of my mind, and the company of my close friends. Not while being interviewed for a biography. Agree completely. IMO it needs to be reworded to be punchier as a meme, but the idea is spot-on. ---

He’s talking to the people running the teleprompter, editing the speech as he goes, with the expectation that they can fix it in post-production. He seems to think he’s actually shooting an episode of a TV show.
