I’m 71, and as far back as I can remember, there were some primary elections. Now, to be sure, they were only in a handful of states (maybe 15-20?), but there were always some primaries. IIRC, New Hampshire was always the first, just as it is today. ---

I’m in California, and our primaries have almost never (completely never?) ever counted for anything. Oh, and I crossed a street yesterday, and I didn’t get shot or even raped. Must have been my lucky day. ---
