# Is Trump’s mortgage plan a bad idea?

I first heard the term strategic default during the subprime mortgage crises back in 2018. I recall a spokesperson for a banking organization being interviewed, speaking about strategic defaulters as if they were morally wrong for walking away from debt. The organization this guy worked for strategically defaulted on the own building.

Banks don’t loan out of the kindness of their heart, they make a business decision. They’ll walk away when it suits them without thinking twice.

Exactly. And as the other side of that equation, your decision should be a business decision as well.
