The Guardian is reporting that Pelosi rejected the deal he was planning to propose before he got to announce it. Nothing new in it. ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC kept running their regular programming, leaving the live coverage to the cable news networks. The words were virtually interchangeable with his speech last week. For some reason I’m reminded of a trope that was making the rounds in the late '60s and early '70s. The gist was that if you were drowning 100 feet from shore, Nixon would throw you a 60-foot rope — then Kissinger would go on national television and claim that Nixon had tried to meet you more than halfway.
