Nope. He’s lucky if he checks his e-mail once a week, which is a good thing because he hardly ever sends or receives any. He’ll sit here next to me on the laptop (while I’m here on the Big Brain Main desktop) and surf eBay and the news sites while we eat breakfast, but other than that he’s not much of a computer guy. I’m the geek of the house. I tell him about stuff on here almost every day, and he usually enjoys it. Sometimes he’ll chuckle at a sequential thread title. But he generally doesn’t get into the online culture stuff and says he has better things to do with his time (which is true). ---

I often send my boyfriend links to interesting threads, and I think he lurks sometimes, but he just doesn’t want to join. I wish he would, because he’d have a ton to contribute and he’d fit right in with the smartest and smartassiest of Dopers. But even when I offered to pay for his subscription, he said no thanks. Well, at least I can talk about him more now. 🙂 ---

Excellent juxtaposition between thread title and OP’s name. I got a good laugh out of it. No, he’s not. WhyNot? Just not that interested, I guess. He does lurk a bit, but only if I point him to a good thread or he finds me larfing it up at the computer. He used to have an account under the name **Overengineer** , but when the board went pay, he didn’t want to join. ---

Thanks Joph! Yea, we spent a fair amount of time in IRC. I guess I should have mentioned that he was Democritus back then and had his name shortened to Demo 3 or 4 years ago. ---

I introduced him to the boards, and he would read them when he was at the job that took up very little of his time. He used to post as **New & Improved Scott** , and I think he even racked up 300+ posts, but he stopped when the boards went to pay. ---

I have TWO exes who are members, who’d become members after we’d started dating. I’ve got major posting paranoia. I highly recommend NOT introducing your SO to the Dope. ---

My wife is a Charter Member, but rarely posts (I think her post count is stil in single-digits.) She lurks every now and then, but usually just asks me to ask something, or to tell her if anything juicy went on that day. In fact, that’s the usual series of questions when I get home from school: “How are you? How was school? Anything interesting on the Dope today?” ---

My husband is a lurker, but not a member. He’s met several Dopers and generally enjoys things he reads here. He often points things out to me. I’ve tried getting him to become a member, but he refuses. He’s a smart guy, but his spelling and sentence structure is atrocious and he knows it. ---

I don’t really know why my wife doesn’t want to join. I tell her about things I’ve read all the time, and I e-mail her threads, which she reads, but she isn’t joining. Actually, she did register once, pre-P2P, to answer an anime question (I think), but she probably racked up all of two posts. This is odd, because she is extremely literate and witty and snarky and has opinions. She prefers to be an admin and several characters on a Harry Potter RPG, and go to TWOP and a few other places. The Dope just isn’t one of them. ---

Nah. When my Wife has down time to relax, this isn’t her bag. But she knows I’m into it. But, if we, or she has a question that we can’t quite get a toe hold on, she’ll say, “Just post it on the Dope”. Guess that makes me a research assistant. 😉 ---
