I don’t know where you live but, in Canada, there is a Jewish organization that collects and publishes, annually, a score card of each Canadian province in terms of individual cases of bigotry toward Jewish Canadians.

Event like this would certainly find its way on that report and all of us – who experience similar bigotry on a daily basis – read this in newspaper and go: “So?” Or, more likely: “Who gives a efff!”

In Canada where you have 100’s of various ethnic groups around the world I know of no other that makes their own specific report on bigotry exerted upon them. Not even Native Canadians report – the group who is experiencing it the most – makes the news (unless they block a road – then you MUST report but then it’s a civic disturbance).

I find that attitude extremely selfish and, I repeat, considering that Canada is accommodating 100’s of other ethnicities – that display of self-importance is rather annoying.

That an ethnic group can rationalize their own apartheid like treatment of Palestinians or have, admittedly stupid soccer fans, casually display “romanticized nationalism” and, at the same time, complain and whine about every single minutiae of mistreatment in other countries – countries like Canada that is light years ahead in terms of civic culture – is astounding.

So, yeah, that bothers me…

Yes, because most nations that care about minority rights collect statistics on hate crimes and racial incidents.

A dastardly Jewish scheme, to be sure.
Keep fighting the good fight.

Of course you do. Of course. An organization monitors bigotry against Jews, and that upsets you because erm, it’s, um, er… self-important and, hmmm… well…selfish. Good call.

Jews =/= Israelis.
Just, ya know, since you evidently don’t comprehend that at all.

But understandable. for nearly a Millennium, Jews were persecuted and regularly pogromed by people who were/are the majority, there were even hunted down to extinction at one point. This I think has left a mark on the collective consciousness of all Jews and is sometimes manifested in the way in which it is pro-active and to some ‘whines about minutiae’

Actually, it is pretty much irrelevant to the discussion. Anyone with any knowledge of Israel has been aware of a number of tiny factions among the Israelis who favor an extreme form of theocratic Judaism who would purge Israel even of Jews who did not meet their standards. That Israel additionally has a small faction\* that seems to sound a lot like the white supremacists in the U.S. or the U.K. should be a surprise to no one. Pretty much any nation is going to have small groups of malcontents who blame their problems on “others.”

Arguing that Israel does not or would not have such jerks is silly. Similarly, noting that Israel shares the presence of such idiots with every other nations is meaningless.

- I note that the booed goal received a resounding cheer from those in attendance except for the small group of self-identified idiots.

This is thread shitting. Posting to announce that you have nothing to say while making unsupported accusations against other posters is inappropriate.

Do not do this again. And unless you have evidence that a poster is actually a member of a _hasbara_ organization, you will stop dropping that turd into threads, as well.

This is objectionable, really? How on earth can it be “selfish” to compile statistics? Unless the same organization is trying to make anti-Jewish discrimination extra-illegal or punished more severely or something, or trying to make discrimination against other groups legal.

If I were Jewish and Canadian, the question of which provinces might harbor more or less anti-Semitism seems like a relevant question. If I were moving about the U.S. and an organization had a breakdown of anti-atheist discrimination by state, I’d take a look.

You just conflated a Canadian organization that compiles anti-Jewish discrimination statistics, Canadian Jews generally, and Israelis. That’s rather inaccurate.

I’m white, does that mean I rationalized [the expulsion of ethnic Albanians from Kosovo](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slobodan_Milo%C5%A1evi%C4%87#Milo.C5.A1evi.C4.87.E2.80.99s_role_in_the_Yugoslav_wars)? Can I not complain about discrimination I face (which I don’t, but hypothetically) because other white people in other countries have discriminated against others (I’m trying to phrase this to avoid the apartheid question, which is a seperate discussion)?

It’s also quite typical of folks who are habituated to use of the Fallacy of Composition and Fallacy of Division. Incidentally those two, teamed up, tend to be the basis of virtually every form of prejudice, bigotry and racism.

I’m also more than a little skeptical that this “Canadian Jewish organization”, which he refuses to even name, is the only group in Canada that collects such statistics.

In the US, there are plenty of organizations that collect records of discrimination against African-Americans, Latinos, Middle Easterners and others not to mention that there are plenty of groups that do the same to collect statistics on discrimination against gays and lesbians.

I find it very hard to believe that there aren’t similar organizations in Canada.

For example, is **Newcomer** seriously claiming that the Muslim Canadian Council and various GLBT groups don’t do the same.

Furthermore, if this “Jewish organization” which he refuses to name, is the Canadian version of the ADL then I have a difficult time believing they only collect those stats regarding Jews because the ADL does it for a number of different groups.

Well, I mean, obviously, it’s The Canadian Jewish Organization.
They have an office in the same building as the People United To Do Things and Government Organization Related To Citizens.

Also, they speak/think for all Jews. Everywhere.

Yes - it is objectionable.

Who the heck do you think you are? You are not anymore special than me!

But, the organization I’m referring to was able to get Canadian Parliament to make special treatment for the so called “new –antisemtism”.

That’s the effect of a specific group singling themselves as being the target of casual bigotry – the one that every other group, out of 100’s experiences. The report of ANY instance of anti-semitism across Canada is traditionally found in newspapers and other media and Governmental papers at various levels.

As a consequence, overall public discourse is raised and as such produces act of Government to do exactly what you oppose in your quote – in Canada they were able to “convince” Government to setup a special entity called “Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism” - CPCCA [Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Parliamentary_Coalition_to_Combat_Antisemitism)

These are the recomandations that CPCCA came up with and you tell me if that’s not over reaching:

> [@](#):
>
> The committee recommended, among other things that:
> • police forces across Canada be better trained to deal with anti-Semitism;
> • a clear definition of what anti-Semitism entails be developed;
> • that universities host conferences to counter events such as "Israeli Apartheid Week”. The panel also rejected allegations from supporters of IAW that criticism of this and similar events are attempts to stifle their free speech; The report did not recommend that universities try and shut down the events, but made a number of recommendations aimed at protecting the safety of students.
> • Citizenship and Immigration Canada should give special consideration to rising international anti-Semitism when making decisions about who is permitted to settle in Canada and from which countries they are coming; and that education about human rights be made a bigger part of training programs offered to new Canadians;
> • The House of Commons’ foreign affairs committee do a study on the UN’s “overemphasis of alleged human rights abuses by Israel while ignoring flagrant human rights abuses of other member states”

“WTF?” is all I can say for a group that constitues 1% of Canadian population.

And, there are more pressing civic issues than this.

Point you are missing is that the bigotry of a handful of idiot soccer fans is hardly indicative of anything, as such idiots exist everywere - including Israel. Soccer fandom in Europe is famous for having among its ranks some ignorant thugs - some bitterly racist to bood.

The CPCCA report attributes its origins to:

> [@](#):
>
> In February 2009, parliamentarians from around the world gathered in London for the inaugural conference of the Inter-parliamentary Committee for Combating Antisemitism (ICCA). The conference brought together over 125 legislators from over 40 countries for two days of presentations and discussions on the increasing problem of antisemitism.
>
> The conference produced ‚The London Declaration for Combating Antisemitism,‛ which calls upon:
>
> Parliamentarians [to] return to their legislature, Parliament or Assembly and establish inquiry scrutiny panels that are tasked with determining the existing nature and state of antisemitism in their countries and developing recommendations for government and civil society action.

Is this incorrect, or is the Canadian organization you speak of so powerful it was able to arrange a conference of 40 nations, held in a different country?
What I said I’d oppose was “trying to make anti-Jewish discrimination extra-illegal or punished more severely or something, or trying to make discrimination against other groups legal.” CPCCA seems to have done done of that. Am I wrong?

If what you object to is trying to categorize criticism of Israel as being automatically, or even often, anti-Semitism, well, I agree that it needn’t be so, and CPCCA seems to agree:

> [@](#):
>
> In particular, the Ottawa Protocol clearly differentiates between antisemitism and legitimate criticism of Israel that is not antisemitic:
> However, criticism of Israel similar to that levelled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic.
>
> Let it be clear: Criticism of Israel is not antisemitic, and saying so is wrong. But singling Israel out for selective condemnation and opprobrium – let alone denying its right to exist or seeking its destruction – is discriminatory and hateful, and not saying so is dishonest.

So, what’s the beef? If it’s that other groups have it worse in Canada, then they need to organize and work on the problem. In the U.S., for instance, in addition to the [ADL](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Defamation_League) there’s [GLAAD](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GLAAD), [NAACP](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAACP), and the [ADC](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American-Arab_Anti-Discrimination_Committee), amongst countless others. There’s no fixed amount of tolerance that has to be split amongst society, ADL’s efforts don’t make GLAAD’s less effective. So I don’t understand the “Jews don’t have it that bad” argument.

You probably won’t, but folks reading along will probably be amused that you’re the same person who thinks that Jews control the US government, that Israel was connected with 9/11, and who’s also totally baffled as to why someone might think that Jews are subjected to prejudices that aren’t completely fungible with every other group on the planet.

> • Citizenship and Immigration Canada should give special consideration to rising international anti-Semitism when making decisions about who is permitted to settle in Canada and from which countries they are coming; and that education about human rights be made a bigger part of training programs offered to new Canadians; **Holy shit, you’re right! What business does a modern civil society have trying to make sure that its immigrant population won’t try to violate the civil rights of people they’re racist against? It’s not like governments have a responsibility to their citizenry, or anything. You’re right, yet again!]**
> • The House of Commons’ foreign affairs committee do a study on the UN’s “overemphasis of alleged human rights abuses by Israel while ignoring flagrant human rights abuses of other member states” \*\*Oh. My. GOD. A study?!? They’re going to author a study? That’s just… inhuman! How could they?!? And what, a study of a UN body that’s lost all legitimacy among any but anti-Israel partisans, because of the fact that some of the worst human rights violators sit as members, as routinely ignore human rights catastrophes in order to focus vastly disproportionate attention and energy on Israel? Why would anybody care about that, it’s just Jews whining. Right, newcomer?] \*\*

I take it you are equally “bothered” that the Canadian Islamic Congress has “pioneered awareness of this issue [Islamophobic acts] in Canada through its own Anti-Islam in the Media monitoring project”. Right?

I mean, how dare a tiny minority display such self-importance, as to document Canadian media for anti-Islamic acts? Who do those Muslims think they are? 😛

I wait with bated breath for you to denounce Muslims generally for their affrontery, just as you have denounced Jews … how dare this ethnic group complain about the depiction of Islam in Canada, which is light-years ahead of their treatment in other countries? It’s astounding.

[Hopefully everyone will realize the above is parody and that, in reality, there is nothing “astounding” about any ethnic group keeping track of prejudice against it and insisting on being treated with dignity and respect … right?]

He was demonstrably making an untrue statement?!

I’m shocked! Shocked!
