That hardly seems fair. I have seen these sort of posts in Great debates all the time. I can probably point you to 10 instances where there was a moderater present (because they were posting on the thread) but didn’t issue a warning.
In fact there was recently a thread about statutory rape where it seemed to be open season on the OP.
If you’re talking about the ‘ignorance of age’ thread, I had to go in there a couple of times to tell people to stop making personal comments (posts 340 and 508). That thread was on page seven by the time I got involved, so a lot of that crap had already taken place. I’d rather cut it off early in this thread instead of having to deal with a bigger problem a few pages later.
South Africa was under boycott at the time due to the apartied policy. In practical matters , spare parts had to be bought on the open market for among other things, their airforce. They operated the Mirage family of fighter bombers as the primary strikers and Israel , due to aquiring the plans for the mirage on the sly had no problems selling them spare parts, sub rosa.
During the colaboration, both the next generation Israeli indigenus fighter (read clone of the Mirage) the Kfir, and the South African model (the Cheetah) came out at the same time. A number of other joint projects also were in development, both Dr Gerald Bull, where have we heard that name from before, in the G5 mobile artillery system and a number of other projects that have feet in both countries.
Regarding the nukes, it was always assumed that South Africa already had them. But its possible that what they wanted was a IRBM like the Pershing or the Jericho as the Israelis call it, if Israel was going to transfer actual warheads, it would have been with the complicity of the US.
