‘The Israeli occupation’ as they consider it is not just Palestine. I don’t believe they’ll be satisfied until the Israelis are out of the Middle East entirely. But they’ll happily take Palestine back for now. It puts them one step closer to their goal.
I never got the impression Middle Easterners and especially Israelis were particularly timid about travel for the purpose of business or tourism.
Here is an Israeli song from 1958 called “To the Red Rock” about a group of tourists who hike to Petra and get shot for their trouble. So, naturally, it was censored for supposedly inspiring many Israelis to make the trip.
As the first and last verse of the song go:
Beyond the mountains and the desert
Legends say there is a place
From which no man has returned alive
And its name is the Red Rock
Oh… the Red Rock
The song was written during a time of extreme tension between Israel and Jordan, where both sides would shoot anyone crossing the border on sight. The Red Rock, AKA Petra, AKA those ancient ruins from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, became the Holy Grail (hah!) for Israeli hikers and adventurers. Many tried to get there, and some never returned.
Anyway, Israelis really love to hike and travel. Comes from living in a small country, I guess. I’ve never met an Israeli who’s never been abroad, and I’m sure there are people in India, Thailand, Greece, Peru and many other places who are convinced that my country has at least ten times the population it actually does, based solely on the number of backpackers and tourists.
To some extent. But every hostel I’ve ever stayed at has a group of Australians. Every ski hill has dozens working. It’s a wonder there are any left back in Oz.
With Sudan , they agreed to pay for their involvement in terror attacks. What I like about these agreement is that it gets the US less involved if not totally out of the Middle East.

Between petroleum, anti-Western groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda, and the lack of resolution to the Palestinian issue, even if Israel’s relations with some of their neighbors improves, the U.S. is going to be deeply involved in the Middle East for a long, long time to come.
As far as the petroleum issue, we are out of the Middle East , the treaties don’t involve the US , it’s between the players. As far as the Palestinians, they had been approached but said no. As long as Hamas and Hezellah are holding out , that’s between the ME players.
As far as the petroleum issue, we are out of the Middle East
Incorrect. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, we import 960,000 barrels of oil per day from Persian Gulf countries, accounting for 11% of our total imports. Almost half of our oil imports are now from Canada, but we are not “out of the Middle East” when it comes to oil.

Ok , but we don’t totally rely on it as we used to. All in all these agreements are good for the area.
