> Does manslaughter carry the same associations in Israel as it does in the US? (I can’t recall if you live or ever lived in the US, **Alessan** , only that I seem to recall that you lived in Israel a few years ago.)

Basically, manslaughter is seen as murder but with some extenuating circumstances. The Hebrew term for it is _Hariga_, or “Killing”, as distinguished from _Retzach_, or “Murder” (and incidentally, it’s the latter word that’s used in the Ten Commandments, not the former).

As an aside, while I’ve lived in Israel most of my life, I spend much of my early childhood in the United States, and a couple more years there as an adult.

Of course, you should take anything I say with a grain of salt - I know more about U.S. criminal law than Israeli criminal law. After all, it’s not like I have any personal experience with the subject, and all the cop shows I watch on TV are American.
