[nitpick]The protesters are from Britain, I believe.[/nitpick]
irken, some of them are, some of the aren’t.
This is really strange if you ask me. Assuming for a moment that these people aren’t killed or captured by Iraq to be used against threat nations, what will the U.S./Britain do to them legally? This is (would be) interference in actually military operations, not a march down Pennsylvania Blvd.
I think they would be rounded up and arrested.
what ever became of those guys who went down to protest in vieques?
my bad about the nationality, but it doesn’t change much in my post
[oops]Okay, I missed the bit about the former US Marine in the article.[/oops]
And, yeah, I was thinking pretty much the same thing, the likelihood of the protesters being arrested for interfering with military affairs.
And if Bush were to follow Mothchunks’s suggestion, wouldn’t that just give the anti-war fanatics more fuel? They are simply protesting, exercising their freedom of assembly. If disagreeing with Bush (on war, not necessarily a regime change) is treason, then kill me, I am a traitor.
Wouldn’t it be interesting if the actions of these few people actually inspired thousands of “red buses” to show up, with tens of thousands of Americans lined up in Iraq?
What now? We no longer have a few “idiots” with a death wish. We now have a groundswell of the “popular” American opinion being exercised in a profound way.
These folks are are very brave.
To the folks who have expressed the desire that they are killed, they should be personally invited to go out and line up crosshairs and pull the trigger.
Protesting the US governments actions is one thing but actively aiding the Iraqis is treason. NOT ONE lefty here appears to understand that distinction.
Not one of you seems to get the huge gulf between Bertrand Russell going to jail for his pacifism during WWI and Lord Haw Haw broadcasting Nazi propaganda during WWII. Both were British, but one was principled and the other was a traitor. Can you tell the difference?
Of course, I fully expect that these leftists will explain hat spitting on soldiers and waving the Iraqi flag is just harmless protest.
oh come on… it’s not just liberals that are against this war, and not just conservatives that are for it… If the wars we fight depend only on the overly simplistic right-left sway of politicians in and out of office you’re all but admitting the entire thing is arbitrary horseshit.
If you do admit as much, welcome aboard.
Pressure on our representatives??? They are rolling over, Democrat and Republican, and deferring to Bush’s increasing authoritarian regime. Bush can start a war without Congressional approval–because Congress already gave the president total authority to do what he will to Iraq. Rep pressure is just about useless.
Now wait a minute here.
First, we are not at war with Iraq. So these people are not commiting treason (or the ones from the US aren’t-- the others wouldn’t be commiting teason even if we were at war with Iraq.)
Second, I sure don’t want them dead. I think that if they got killed Bush would have his “reason” to start a war with Iraq.
Third, real pressure on your representatives will have that blanket “forget the checks and balances, Mr. President-- do whatever you want.” crap pulled just as quickly as it was given.
It is my most deepest wish that thinking people in this country will rise above the reactionaries on both sides and use their freakin’ brains.
Did I somehow limit my statement only to congressional representatives? I thought I was talking about politicians, and more generally about the overly simplistic “ideologies” being thrown around to support this or that war for no apparent reason.
Don’t these people have to work? Where do they get the time and money for their shenanigans?
BTW, It’s Hussein, not “Hussain.”
Willingness to die for your beliefs is only worth something when the belief is nobel, it is not nobel in and of itself.
If the belief is nobel enough, can you win a noble prize?
