There is a huge difference between sarcastic advice and flat out bad advice - there is plenty of snark here on the SDMB - but by and large, as you well should note by now - we call out the bad and will not let it stand when ever possible. Thats why there are different forums on this board with rules related to the type - there is a place for snark - there is never a place for ‘bad advice’. Had you not started with “I’m a lawyer and I read…” - your bad advice would have been challenged anyway - but you would not (likely) be in this particular pit thread. It’s a good thing you have a corp job, probably taking advantage of the same ‘employee favored rules’ to keep yourself employed that your employer has you fight so you can get rid of others… mighty fine christian of ya. Basically - if you want to be a ‘respected’ member here, then you should contribute to the idea that is in the masthead - “Fighting Ignorance” - all you have done so far is prove that you are ignorant or just don’t care about the quality of your words in a public forum - neither are things that last long here. ---

It amazes me that a working lawyer would be able ot manage so much time on a message board. Also, bragging about not charging your clients for the time you spend on the board is, er, rather startling. ---

It wasn’t such a big deal in the past, but in the last 5 years or so here in CA. Attorneys in the big firms in the big cities: LA, SF, and SJ have been accused of padding their bills. It’s gotten so bad that the bills are now being monitored by the In-House corporate counsels. However, it all comes out in the wash. If a corporation has their In-House counsel reviewing the bills they still need to pay their counsel to do it. So the corporation really doesn’t save that much money. ---
