It should be ilegal to smoke on the street.

I haven’t smoked in approximately fifteen years. Threads like this one make me seriously consider taking it up again. If I do, I will smoke the cheapest, strongest, most offensive cigars I can find and I will do so among the highest concentration of non-smokers I can locate.

That’ll teach 'em!

I would have thought your first go-round with oral cancer taught you something about smoking.

In other words, act like a stereotypical smoker. Cutting off your nose to spite your face, and acting as obnoxiously as possible. And then wondering why non-smokers tend to think smokers are all malignant jerks.

Are you trying to get the kind of law the OP calls for passed?

At the risk of repeating myself:

He doesn’t necessarily have to smoke them. Just light 'em.

Actually, that was my fourth go around with oral cancer. I didn’t actually say I was gonna start smoking again but only what I would do it I did. Childish, wasn’t it?

I don’t kid myself; if I were to light one, I’d smoke 'em from then on out.

Don’t take things so seriously; you need to watch your blood pressure.

There’s always the option of moving to a remote cabin in Lincoln, Montana, where one can breathe clean air, work on their manifesto and post each page as a GD thread.

As much as Der Trihs may want that to be true, his assertion does not constitute evidence.

Much like his comments on religion and politics? You’re unlikely to get a cite, I’m afraid. In Der Trihs’s world, everything is pretty much black and white.

No doubt. But he helps another tradition continue in The Pit! {Yes, it’s a Der Trihs pitting.}

This is a mostly American board. This board would not exist if not for the original paperback books. 7 out of 14 forums on “The straight dope” have nothing to do with the spirit said books. “Great debates” and alot of “IMHO” are on target and in the spirit, but the rest are just fluff. How many folks who “live” in the “BBQ PIT” or the other “social” forums have even heard of the original books? This place has turned into an abomination. Fighting ignorance?

It makes me sad to live in a place where people think it’s okay to use taxation as a punishment for doing something other people don’t like.

You think GQ is fluff? I would argue that it’s the single forum that most embodies the spirit of Cecil’s columns. Heck, it’s been the source of a bunch of the columns.

:smack: I fully intended to be clear in saying that GQ is all that truely matters. Oh boy.

Banning smoking on the street is the beginning of a dangerous slippery slope. Next, you’ll want to ban having sex on the street.

And I also fully intend to post in the proper forums in the future.

I will also not start any more sentences with “and” :smack:. Good night.

Isn’t that the whole point of “sin taxes” in every country on the planet–to use taxation as a punishment for certain behavior?
